jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.7 1bece0b201 feat(simulation): serve atlas layer requests over the bridge — completes #969 (D-225)
Closes the server-side layer-stream loop. serve_atlas_requests (PreInput) drains
the AtlasRequestBuffer and runs each through handle_atlas_request (cache hit ->
Ready; miss -> resolve via BodySourceResolver + enqueue an Immediate AnalyzeBody
-> Pending), buffering AtlasLayerResponses. send_atlas_responses (PostSnapshot)
flushes them to the client. main.rs wires BodySourceResolverResource (base root
= systems.db's 3rd ancestor; mod roots layer on later). Misses flow through the
#968 background tier and a re-request hits the now-warm cache.

Full path now live server-side: client request -> receive() demux -> serve ->
proxy -> (cache | queue+cascade) -> response -> client. The client half (send
request, decode response, render overlays) is #960.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.7 8cedf670f0 feat(simulation): activate background generation tier end-to-end (#968, D-206/D-225)
The D-206 queue (#924) and D-203 cache (#917) were built but never connected to
the running app — the whole background tier was inert. This closes the loop:
submit -> Rayon -> cascade -> completion -> drain -> cache.

- gen_queue.rs: GenWorkItem::AnalyzeBody now carries enqueuer-resolved inputs
  { body_id, heightmap_path, sea_level, body_seed: SeedChain } (D-225 boundary —
run_work_item stays pure compute, no path/DB resolution). run_work_item runs
the real cascade: load heightmap.png -> downsample to GRID_W×GRID_H working
  grid (D-202) -> run_layer1 -> BodyWorldState; load failure -> Failed.
  GenCompletion::BodyAnalyzed carries the computed BodyWorldState.
- cascade.rs: CascadeSnapshot::into_body_world_state() conversion.
- plugin.rs (new): GenerationPlugin registers GenerationQueue +
BodyWorldStateCache and adds a PreInput drain system that inserts BodyAnalyzed
states into the cache (off the Rayon workers — a cheap channel drain, never
the ~45ms cascade). Wired into both the production and test app setups.

Tests run the real cascade on a tiny temp heightmap PNG (no committed fixture);
the plugin test proves the full submit->...->cache loop. The proxy (#969) is the
production submitter.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 c640563fc0 refactor(simulation): drop PROTOCOL_VERSION from bridge handshake (#874, D-192)
Removes the PROTOCOL_VERSION lockstep handshake across the bridge
transports. HandshakeMessage is now an empty marker indicating the
server is ready; the client sends StartupMessage next. Field-presence
and roundtrip behavioral tests are retained — tautological
version-literal assertions were deleted in Sprint 36.

After this lands, genuine schema drift surfaces as MessagePack
missing-field errors downstream, which is the intended signal per
D-192. Client ticket #875 is blocked by this commit and will ride
the same wave; server schema changes in #878 (character_archetype
removal) also depend on PROTOCOL_VERSION already being gone.

types.rs changes are bundled with the broader #877/#878 dead-code
sweep in the following commit, since they share the same file.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Sonnet 4.6 e86e53ec06 feat(engine): retire D-078 overheard conversation system (#848)
Per R-012: delete conversation.rs, both overheard content files, and
remove all 6 wire-up points (social_plugin, bridge/types, monologue,
voice/integration). Protocol version 22 → 23. Scope confirmed by
#842 audit — npc/ and content/global/ untouched. Surviving NPC
components (NpcName, NpcColorIndex, NpcConversation) migrated to
simulation/npc_components.rs for use by D-080 knowledge propagation.
Also applies pre-existing cargo fmt debt (names.rs and 4 others).

jpmschweitzerandClaude Sonnet 4.6 c19d84f2e3 feat(simulation): bookmark definition system with bridge protocol (#614)
BookmarkPlugin, BookmarkRegistry, SelectedBookmark resources. Tycoon bookmark
defined; PROTOCOL_VERSION bumped to 22. RequestBookmarkCatalog + ConfirmBookmark
actions wired into process_player_input via BookmarkInputParams SystemParam bundle
(resolves Bevy's 16-system-param limit). build_catalog() accepts optional
CultureResolver for D-128 location-culture mapping. Snapshot delivery at tick-0
via SnapshotBuffer.

jpmschweitzer d21c690293 fix(tooling): address PR #129 review — atlas generator, schema, Makefile
- ON DELETE CASCADE added to every atlas_* foreign key (atlas_body_grids,
  atlas_cities, atlas_roads, atlas_railroads, atlas_pois, atlas_rivers,
  atlas_oceans, atlas_mountain_ranges). Previously, deleting a body from
the bodies table or NULL-ing its terrain_reference would leave orphan
atlas rows forever — sync_markers_to_db only cleans up for bodies it
re-processes. The existing atlas tables in systems.db were dropped and
recreated with the new constraint; FK list now reports CASCADE.

- Atlas DDL deduplicated. systems-schema.sql is now the single source of
  truth, bracketed by `-- BEGIN ATLAS INDEX` / `-- END ATLAS INDEX`
markers. generate_atlas.py reads that block via `_load_atlas_schema()`
and applies it at runtime, so there is no second copy of the DDL to
keep in sync. Adding a column requires one edit, not two.

- Uniqueness guard on city coordinates. `_enforce_unique_city_coords`
runs at the end of `place_cities` and deterministically perturbs any
duplicate (row, col) via a fixed spiral walk to the first free
walkable land cell. Rare in practice but the MST collapses to a
zero-distance edge otherwise, producing an empty A* path and silently
  dropping the road.

- Grid header validation. `load_markers` now raises `AtlasGridMismatch`
if the loaded `grid: {w, h}` header does not match `GRID_W`/`GRID_H`.
Both the incremental-skip path and the regenerate path route through
this loader, so a hand-authored template shipping a different grid
size fails loud with a per-body error rather than silently producing
  half-scale coordinates.

- Unused `seed_rng` parameter removed from `_analyse_terrain`. The
function is RNG-free (continent flood-fill, habitability scoring,
river-mouth dedup, cost grid — all pure functions of terrain). The
false API contract made it look like terrain analysis consumed RNG
state and had to be sequenced with downstream RNG use.

- `_score_capital_sites` river-mouth bonus now builds one sparse
accumulator with all mouth points set at once and runs a single
`gaussian_filter` call, instead of O(n_mouths) filter calls over
  single-point images.

- `binary_dilation(analysis["land_mask"] == False)` replaced with the
idiomatic `~analysis["land_mask"]`, matching the convention used
  elsewhere in the file.

- `atlas-generate` Makefile target now guards on
`SELECT COUNT(*) FROM bodies WHERE terrain_reference IS NOT NULL`.
On a fresh DB that count is 0 and the generator previously exited
"success" after processing zero bodies. The target now fails loud
  with a pointer to `populate_terrain_reference.py`.

- `main.rs` SimRng defensive re-insertion gains a long comment
explaining the exact plugin-ordering hazard it guards against, so
future readers don't treat the line as dead code. Tied to #826.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 2175e9b31c feat(simulation): multi-threaded executor + EntityRng (#843 Part B)
Enable Bevy multi-threaded executor via bevy_tasks multi_threaded
feature. Systems within the same TickPhase that don't share mutable
resources now run in parallel automatically.

Add EntityRng component — per-entity ChaCha20Rng seeded from
world_seed + StableId via splitmix64 mixing. More deterministic than
shared SimRng (order-independent). Migrate all monologue systems
(4 of 13 SimRng consumers) to EntityRng, removing contention that
serialized them against conversation/dialogue systems.

Add rayon dependency (infrastructure only, no par_iter calls yet).

SimRng retained for world-level randomness: conversation pairing,
knowledge transfer, dialogue, ticker, storyteller.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 47d4918cc8 refactor(simulation): replace ad-hoc system ordering with TickPhase pipeline (#843)
10-phase linear pipeline: PreInput → Input → Movement → Simulation →
Economy → Storyteller → Snapshot → PostSnapshot → Knowledge → TickAdvance.

Each system assigned to exactly one phase via .in_set(TickPhase::X).
Cross-phase .after()/.before() eliminated — only intra-phase ordering
remains. Prevents schedule cycles by construction.

SimulationPlugin refactored into sub-plugins by domain:
  - InputPlugin (player actions, interactions, dialogue dispatch)
  - MovementPlugin (pathfinding, movement validation, spatial indexing)
  - SocialPlugin (conversations, sound, voice enrichment, follow state)
  - EconomyPlugin (tâtonnement tick, IPC query serving)
  - TimePlugin (chunk streaming, news ticker, tick advancement)

All other plugins (NPC, Knowledge, Perception, Storyteller, Settings,
Bridge) updated to use TickPhase assignments instead of cross-plugin
ordering constraints. BridgePlugin trimmed to bridge I/O concerns only.

Part A of #843. Parts B (multi-threaded executor) and C (background
workers) follow.

**#821 — Integrate econ-sim into server tick loop**
- Extract econ-sim as library crate (lib.rs + sim.rs, Cargo.toml [lib] section)
- Add Simulation stateful runner; step() advances one economy tick
- Add EconSimResource, EconStateResource (7 D-181 signals), tick_economy_simulation
- Economy loads once at startup; graceful no-op when systems.db absent
- Server advances economy 1 tick per 10 game ticks (D-031)

**#822 — Expose economy state over IPC bridge**
- Protocol version 20 → 21
- Add EconomySnapshot, EconNodeSnapshot wire types
- Add EconStateQuery PlayerAction variant; response in economy_snapshot field
- Add EconQueryBuffer resource + serve_econ_state_query system

**#823 — Economics debug commands**
- Add InjectEconEvent, SetEconParam, GetEconState to DebugCommandKind
- Add EconDebugEffect, EconParamKind enums
- SetEconParam mutates α/β at runtime (α/β promoted to pub const + Simulation fields)
- ALPHA and BETA constants threaded through step_inner/trade_step signatures

All 1147 unit tests pass; zero warnings.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 aa79dd97e7 fix(simulation): Clippy cleanup and CI enforcement (#635)
Fix all Clippy warnings across the server codebase (2411 insertions, 1341
deletions). Raise type-complexity-threshold to 750 and too-many-arguments
to 12 in .clippy.toml for idiomatic Bevy ECS system signatures. The server
now passes `cargo clippy -- --deny warnings` cleanly.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Sonnet 4.6 ce0df2f320 refactor(simulation): remove v0.1 content loading system (#655)
Delete the hand-authored YAML content pipeline (server/src/content/) superseded
by the v0.2 generator-first approach (D-122, D-128). Runtime ECS types that were
co-located with content loading have been extracted to dedicated simulation modules:

- simulation/triangle.rs: TriangleState, TriangleCrisisEventQueue, tick/resolve systems
- simulation/line_pool.rs: LinePoolIndex, AccessTier, TrustTier, Mood, LinePoolIndexResource
- simulation/knowledge_grant.rs: KnowledgeGrant, Prerequisites

Monologue systems (trigger_monologue, trigger_recognition_monologue,
trigger_event_monologue) now use hardcoded fallback lines only; the
ContentStoreResource branch and select_pool_line function are removed.

Deleted: content/{loader,types,line_pool,hot_reload,spawn,instantiation,entanglement,mod}.rs
Deleted: tests/{content_loading,content_runtime,content_scaling,template_instantiation,template_schema}.rs
Deleted: bin/line_preview.rs (v0.1 tool)

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 d591f44b35 feat(simulation): add world_seed IPC and EntanglementConfig (#175, #178)
Implements the StartupMessage protocol: client generates world_seed in
SessionManager.new_game(), sends it after handshake, server uses it to
seed SimRng and sample EntanglementConfig.

EntanglementConfig samples flat ∈ [25,35]%, intrigue ∈ [15,25]%, mundane
as remainder (D-029). Same seed produces identical config (D-010
determinism). Different seeds produce distinct configs in ≥90% of pairs.

Protocol flow: HandshakeMessage (server→client) → StartupMessage with
world_seed (client→server) → SimRng initialization → tick loop.

10 Rust tests (determinism, variation, bounds, sum invariant).
9 GDScript test stubs + 2 encode tests for client-side pipeline.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 d1aba3d554 fix(simulation): use non-blocking TCP to prevent game loop stall
read_framed() called read_exact() which blocked the entire bevy Update
schedule waiting for client input — no systems ran until a keystroke
arrived. Switch TcpStream to non-blocking mode so receive_inputs()
returns Ok(vec![]) on WouldBlock instead of blocking. Toggle to
blocking for snapshot writes (reliable delivery). Add 50ms frame
throttle (~20 ticks/sec) since the non-blocking loop would otherwise
spin. Downgrade input receive logging to trace, add error logging for
missing bridge resource and failed observer queries.

Fixes bug #1 (server never sends snapshots) and #2 (camera doesn't
center until first keystroke).

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 df81b24cd1 feat(simulation): sprint anomaly double-take monologue (#428, D-055)
When sprinting past a Contradicted entity, queue a delayed retroactive
monologue that fires after ~1.5s: "Wait — something wasn't right back
there." SprintAnomalyQueue component with first-in-wins semantics.
Detection in observer pipeline, processing in monologue system.
Wire MovementProfile, Stance, and SprintAnomalyQueue into player spawn.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 3c106aa2d0 feat(simulation): complete interaction and monologue pipelines (#413, #414, #415)
Three fixes to make the gameplay loop functional end-to-end:

- Add Interactable component to NPC spawn so E-prompt detection works
- Build monologue trigger system (enter_location + time_idle) with
  MonologueBuffer/MonologueState components, wire through ObserverSnapshot
as current_monologue field, decode on client and display via HUD
- Change PlayerAction::Interact from unit to struct variant carrying
  optional target_entity_id and verb fields

Bumps protocol version from 4 to 5. Regenerates MessagePack fixtures.
All 200 tests pass (170 unit + 30 integration).

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 6f9537fff3 refactor(server): NearbyInteractionBuffer from Resource to Component
Per-entity Component attached to PlayerCharacter instead of global
Resource. Makes the interaction buffer multiplayer-ready (D-009) —
each observer gets their own buffer without pipeline refactoring.

Updated all 8 files touching the buffer: system signatures, player
spawn bundles, and ~30 test spawn sites.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 0b599ed662 feat(simulation): spawn 3 NPCs with full component bundles
Implements ticket #84 for Sprint 3:
- Replace single bare NPC with 3 distinct NPCs: dock worker (16,13)
with full 4-phase routine and MovementSpeed(2), field tech (14,18)
with partial routine, stationary guard (18,14) with no routine
- Register all entities (player + 3 NPCs) in EntityRegistry
- Populate RelationshipGraph with colleague and rival edges
- Add NpcPlugin to app for routine system registration
- Add multi-entity visibility tests: 3 NPCs in LOS all visible,
NPC behind wall excluded from snapshot

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 a7e2c8fbf4 feat(simulation): add proof room with wall and NPC (#357)
Wall at (16,14) and NPC at (16,13) for Sprint 2 fog-of-perception
proof. Player starts at (16,16) — NPC hidden behind wall until
player moves around it.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 f760624967 feat(simulation): add vision cone with forward/peripheral/blind sectors (#111)
Implement direction-dependent visibility modulation per D-015.
Forward cone (~120 deg) at full range, peripheral (~180 deg each side)
at reduced range, blind spot (~60 deg behind) excluded. Facing component
updated on player movement via facing_from_delta.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 7864bfdf7d feat(simulation): add input processing, snapshot gen, and game loop
Implements the full server-side tick pipeline:
- process_player_input drains InputQueue, converts PlayerActions to
  MoveIntent components or pause/unpause toggles
- generate_snapshot builds ObserverSnapshot from ECS state with
  render coordinate conversion
- receive_bridge_inputs/send_bridge_snapshot handle bridge I/O with
graceful disconnect detection via ServerRunning resource
- main.rs now accepts TCP connections and runs a proper game loop
- PlayerCharacter marker, Player EntityKind, SnapshotBuffer resource

Closes server side of #81, #82, #83.
