jpmschweitzerandClaude Fable 5 8da9670e0f feat(simulation): feature-name pipeline wired + legacy window_granularity u32 retired (T-1169, T-1159)
One commit for two tickets whose changes share the bridge/plugin
plumbing files. T-1169 connects the three dormant feature-name pieces:
atlas_feature_names populated at regen (17,891 rows — 15,190 mountain,
2,701 river — via populate_atlas_feature_names mirroring the city-names
importer; systems.db regenerated, stamp fresh), attach_feature_names
wired into the cascade's Topography block with name pools threaded
DB-free through AnalyzeBody (D-225 pattern) and assignments stored on
Layer1Output/BodyWorldState for future consumers, and a
FeatureNamesRequest/Response read proxy as the bridge's 7th tagged
envelope (D-236 pattern, both SimBridge impls). Client label DRAW is
deliberately NOT here — implementation proved both river and mountain
labels need a wire-carried position (the pool is position-free; course
polylines aren't correlated with the named attractors by construction) —
deferred to T-1195's single design pass. cascade_layer1 golden re-pinned
(additive feature_names field).

T-1159 retires the legacy u32 granularity field fully shadowed by
window_granularity_v2: AtlasLayerRequest.window_granularity,
DistrictWindowLayer.granularity echo, the u32::MAX sentinel, and
resolve_window_granularity are gone server-side; client encode paths and
the caller-less atlas_window_cache legacy key component dropped;
msgpack fixtures regenerated; the T-1150 aliasing regression test now
drives through the surviving enum field. The district_window carrier
itself survives byte-compatible per D-255(c).

jpmschweitzer d356b09926 feat(simulation): T-1152 server half — WindowGranularity enum, derive_orbital_at_metres, Region rung on the same carrier
R1 measured first: a capped Region tile through the real production path
(build_district_window_layer + T-1151 par_iter) at the 64x64 wire cap
costs 0.40-0.48ms — faster than the shipped district n=64 window, so
Jeroen's progressive capped-density tiling ruling is comfortably
interactive on-demand. Raw orbital derive ~0.9µs/cell (~2.3x faster than
full derive; region_baseline dominates, not invent_primitives).

R5 redesign: WindowGranularity enum (Quarter/District/Region), serde
named-variant per the RoadNodeKind precedent, spacing from D-243 scale::
constants — the single source of truth. Additive serde-default
window_granularity_v2 request field (None = legacy u32 path; v2 wins when
Some); DistrictWindowLayer.granularity_v2 always echoed. Legacy u32 echo
for Region uses reserved WINDOW_GRANULARITY_REGION_KEY = u32::MAX (never
a legal input) so the old slot cannot lie about aliasing. Cache and
coalescing keys carry the enum itself (Ord by declaration order, D-010).

n stays district-extent at every rung; Region's cell grid is a DIVISION
(round(n/100), min 1) with its own per-axis ceiling
DISTRICT_WINDOW_MAX_N_REGION=6400 and a bounded halving-loop clamp (no
closed form under the rounding division — the client mirror must
replicate the loop).

derive_orbital_at_metres: bilinear envelope reads + region_baseline
temperature, NO invent_primitives (proven by test — slope_q pinned 0),
routed through the shared build_district_profile classification tail so
the existing colorizer family renders orbital cells unchanged. R2
stepped-categorical behavior documented at the function, not implied.

Region aliasing + clamp/echo tests mirror the T-1150 discipline. 1813
lib tests green; clippy clean; fixture regenerated (254->278 bytes, new
echoed field).

jpmschweitzer 3e87fd5b4f feat(simulation): T-1151 window par_iter + T-1150 granularity carrier (five touch points + aliasing tests)
T-1151: build_district_window_layer dispatches one Rayon task per row
(pure derive_window_cell via derive_at_metres), scattered row-major into
the flat arrays; a cfg(test) serial path backs the bit-identical
parallel-vs-serial golden.

T-1150: serde-default window_granularity (1=district, 4=quarter) +
window_min_wl_m on AtlasLayerRequest — additive, no sixth demux shape,
old frames decode unchanged (tested). Quarter mode = full
reclassification at 512m spacing over the same world rect ((4n)x(4n)
cells); WIRE_CAP_CELLS=4096 enforces n*granularity <= cap (quarter
clamps n to 16, the design doc's worked example). Granularity + min_wl
key ALL five touch points: DistrictWindowLayer echo, server FIFO-256
cache key (now a 5-tuple), per-connection coalescing key, client
request codec (omitted-at-default wire fields), client LRU key.

Mandatory aliasing regressions on both ends: identical (body, center, n)
at granularity 1 vs 4 produce distinct cache entries and correct
per-granularity payload shapes (server, 3-thread queue to avoid the
AnalyzeBody thread contention found while writing it) and distinct
client cache keys (gdUnit). Replay fixture regenerated — the layer
struct grew two echoed fields (231->254 bytes, content verified).

Client requests stay district-granularity by default — quarter requests
arrive with T-1153's rung selection.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Fable 5 172ce124c8 feat(simulation): T-1137 windowed district layer — queue-served, coalesced, determinism-tested (D-226 T-1124 SS1-SS4)
AtlasLayerRequest gains window_center/window_n (serde-default, absent
= whole-body, wire back-compat; demux untouched — up_to stays the
discriminator). DistrictWindowLayer echoes center/n + six parallel
arrays (morphology, elev_q, temp_dc i16 with the region sentinel,
moisture_q, vegetation incl Marine=6, glaciation).

Serving per the amendment's binding model: NEVER inline —
GenWorkItem::DeriveWindow rides the Rayon queue, completion drain
caches into DistrictWindowCache (bounded FIFO 256; no staleness by
D-227 purity, capacity bound only), serve_district_window polls the
cache and returns Pending-shaped None until derived. Per-connection
coalescing: submit_window supersedes a still-pending item for the
same (ConnectionId, body) — the surviving item is the newer one,
proven by dedicated tests.

TerrainAnalysis decision (option b, numbers in ticket/PR): re-derive
via run_layer1 in the DeriveWindow branch rather than caching ~1.5MB
x 50 LRU slots (~100MB permanent, the exact D-203 bloat T-1044's own
text guarded against); ~45ms one-time on the Rayon path, invisible to
the tick thread. T-1044 confirmed within-cascade-only (cascade.rs:358
still drops the analysis before BodyWorldState) — the fork was open.

Window derive loop promoted from aliveness_probe::render_window_panels;
determinism promoted from probe-only proof to a real test (two passes
byte-identical). New fixture atlas_response_ready_with_window
exercises all six arrays incl. the airless sentinel and Marine; three
existing fixtures gain district_window: None. Server clamps window_n
to 1..=DISTRICT_WINDOW_MAX_N=64 (never trust the wire).

1774/1774 lib + 19/19 bridge_tcp green.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Fable 5 8165c61186 feat(simulation): T-1119 QuarterFootprintLayer — server half (touch points 1-2) + populated wire fixtures
ZoningType gains PartialOrd/Ord (DistrictType T-994 mirror) for the
dominant_zoning declaration-order tie-break. layer_proxy:
QuarterFootprintEntry/QuarterFootprintLayer (BTreeMap keyed by
city_id; density_avg_pct floor-mean, dominant_* mode with
declaration-order tie-break, landmark/corridor counts) +
build_quarter_footprint_layer gated None on empty state.quarters;
sixth AtlasLayerResponse field wired into all construction sites;
growth-ceiling doc updated to say the whole-body budget is consumed
(what carries a seventh is T-1124's design, resolved in the same
branch's amendment). Placements whose derived Layer4Quarter id is not
yet in state.quarters are SKIPPED (skeleton gen is async Low-priority
— entries may be a proper subset; client decodes defensively). Stale
TODO(#957) removed (premise predates T-957 landing).

Tie-break bug caught by its own test: Iterator::max_by_key over a
BTreeMap returns the LAST max on ties — backwards from
declaration-order-first; replaced with an explicit forward walk that
replaces only on strictly-greater count.

gen_fixtures: populated RegionGridLayer (T-1118 replay coverage) +
QuarterFootprintLayer literals in the ready fixture; msgpack fixtures
regenerated via make fixtures. Note: landmark_count is inert on real
data today (BlockSkeleton.landmark hardcoded None until landmark
placement lands); fixtures use non-zero counts to exercise the logic.

5 new unit tests + populated round-trip; atlas:: 549 green.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Fable 5 4f52abd532 feat(simulation): wire region climate layer into the cascade + proxy (T-1113, D-243)
CascadeLayer::Region appended per the enum's append-only Ord rule (depends only on seed/body_params/heightmap dims — documented); BodyWorldState.regions BTreeMap per the districts precedent; RegionGridLayer dense row-major all-integer encoding (season/weather repr(u8) discriminants, mean_temp deci-degC i16 with i16::MIN airless sentinel, moisture_q u8); build_region_grid mirrors build_district_grid; protocol.gd region_grid passthrough (visual overlay deliberately out of scope); wire fixtures regenerated via make fixtures. atlas:: suite 507 green.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Fable 5 845737617c feat(client): atlas roads/settlements overlays + legend + server-API data delivery (T-960, T-949)
T-960: gen_l2_roads (MaintenanceAuthority-colored polylines, rail styling, junction markers) + gen_l3_settlements (size-scaled markers, capital shape, name labels) overlays — cities render on generated bodies for the first time; left-side generation legend panel (D-226 item 3, data-driven per-overlay spec, implant component library); protocol.gd decodes road_graph/settlements + the two new response types. T-949: system_index/atlas_app/overview_screen migrated off the direct star_map_data.json read to StarMapRequest over the bridge (loading state + replay-on-connect, no silent file fallback); atlas_viewer _load_markers requests CityNamesResponse for non-Sol bodies; Sol keeps the legacy authored markers.json geometry read (D-236/T-1073, load-bearing guard). Lead fix: _send_star_map_request now carries the same guard as request_star_map — the autoload's _star_map_wanted leaked across gdUnit suites and the unguarded replay-on-CONNECTED crashed 8 pre-existing flow tests on a Nil bridge; reset_test_state clears the flag. Fixtures regenerated via gen_fixtures (road/settlement samples). Full suite 2946/2946.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.8 b73b4e6d92 feat(simulation): Layer-1 water bearing + D-234 waterfront rule (#957)
Close the last D-234 piece — terrain water-direction extraction wired through
to founding orientation and the quarter waterfront rule:

- Layer 1: TerrainAnalysis::water_bearing — 8-octant integer bearing toward the
nearest water from the water_dist gradient (D-010, no atan2). Stored on
  GeographicAttractor.water_bearing (360 = none).
- #956 founding orientation: coastal/river settlements now get a real
water-facing bearing (the anchoring attractor's), replacing the 0 stub.
- #957 waterfront rule (D-234b): the water-facing quarter edge (from the
settlement's Coastal founding orientation) drops its block setback to 0 so
buildings present flush to the quay (dock-orthogonal). Typed Edge + coastal_edge
  + per-block gating.

Golden + atlas_response fixture rebaked (additive water_bearing field only).
8 new tests. All integer-deterministic (D-010).

Pending: the waterfront rule reads context.founding_orientation, which
city_context_reader still stubs to Cardinal — real per-settlement orientation
reaches quarter generation once the Layer-3 placement -> Layer-4 GenerateSkeleton
dispatch is wired (the remaining cross-layer integration).

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.8 31d7870823 test(simulation): rebake golden + atlas fixture for Layer-3 enrichment (#956)
DrainageBasin gained a territorial_status field, so the Layer-1 golden and the
atlas_response msgpack fixture pick it up. Both changes are additive/
representational — basin/attractor/river selection is unchanged.

- cascade_golden.rs: pass None dominant_faction; golden rebaked (only
  "territorial_status": "FrontierUnclaimed" added per basin).
- gen_fixtures.rs: set the new field in the atlas_response generator; fixture
  regenerated.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.8 adce12035a fix(simulation): route atlas_response fixtures in the serialize test
all_fixtures_deserialize panicked with "unknown fixture naming
convention: atlas_response_ready" — the test reads every .msgpack in
client/tests/fixtures/msgpack but had no branch for the atlas_response
prefix (the AtlasLayerResponse fixtures gen_fixtures emits, #969). A
pre-existing gap (present on main; the suite isn't gated by the pre-push
hook, which runs cargo-deny/ruff/JSON/stamp, not cargo test).

Add an atlas_response branch deserializing AtlasLayerResponse, and
regenerate atlas_response_ready.msgpack so its bytes match the now-integer
GeographicAttractor types (#955).

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.7 adbd7f6744 fix(simulation): Layer-1 self-describing grid dims + Moore basin trace (#960)
Two Layer-1 generation fixes surfaced by the per-layer atlas viewer:

- Layer1Output now carries grid_w/grid_h (the downsampled working-grid the
positions live in). The client maps overlays from these, so the scale is
correct for any source heightmap resolution rather than assuming the texture
size — fixes overlays projecting at half scale into a corner.
- Drainage basin boundaries are traced as ordered, non-self-crossing contours
via Moore-neighbour tracing instead of an angle-from-centroid sort. The sort
produced star-shaped, self-crossing polygons for concave basins that rendered
as straight chords across the map.

Golden (cascade_layer1.json) and the cross-language atlas_response_ready
fixture regenerated. 100 atlas lib tests + the new tracer test pass.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.7 a9ba8ba90c feat(client): atlas layer-stream codec — encode request / decode response (#960, D-225)
Client half of the layer-stream protocol (codec only; transport wiring next).
- protocol.gd: encode_atlas_layer_request (bare {body_id, up_to} map so the
server demux routes it to the proxy, not the PlayerInput array) and
  decode_atlas_layer_response (-> {body_id, status, error, layer1}; returns null
for non-atlas frames, e.g. a snapshot, so receive_bytes can disambiguate).
- gen_fixtures.rs: cross-language fixtures (atlas_response_ready/pending/
not_found) from real rmp_serde output, matching the test_protocol.gd pattern.
- test_protocol.gd: 5 tests decode the fixtures + verify a snapshot is not
mistaken for a response + the request encodes to the right shape. 68/68 pass.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 41e895796c feat(client): protocol v23 — bookmark_catalog decode + bookmark actions (Workstream 3)
Adds client-side wire support for the bookmark catalog (#614) and the
two associated player actions. PROTOCOL_VERSION bumps from 21 to 23:
- v22 (server): RequestBookmarkCatalog + ConfirmBookmark player actions
- v23 (server): bookmark_catalog field on ObserverSnapshot

Decode:
- protocol.gd decode_snapshot extracts optional bookmark_catalog.
Defensive parse of BookmarkWire fields (id, title, subtitle, flavor,
  default_location, allowed_locations, allowed_locations_cultures,
career, starting_capital_tractus). Missing or malformed → null.
- snapshot_handler.gd caches the catalog into GameState.bookmark_catalog
on each snapshot (server pushes on tick 0; re-fetchable via
  RequestBookmarkCatalog).
- GameState gains bookmark_catalog: Array = [] (untyped per autoload
parse-order discipline; default empty so callers can iterate without
  null checks).

Encode:
- encode_request_bookmark_catalog() — unit variant, sent to trigger a
re-push if the cached catalog is missing.
- encode_confirm_bookmark(bookmark_id, starting_location_id) — struct
variant matching server rmp_serde shape. Called from character
creation on Start (lands in Workstream 6).

Tests:
- 5 new cases in test_protocol.gd: hand-built bookmark_catalog decode
(all 9 fields asserted), fixture-based decode round-trip, missing-
field null behavior, RequestBookmarkCatalog encode roundtrip,
  ConfirmBookmark encode roundtrip.
- All 12 existing snapshot fixtures regenerated from server via
  `cargo test --test gen_fixtures -- --ignored`. The new
snapshot_with_bookmark_catalog.msgpack fixture was generated by the
  same pass.

Verification:
- gdlint clean
- godot --headless --path client --quit — no SCRIPT ERROR
- test_protocol 62/62, test_client_p3 24/24, test_implant_nav_stack
  52/52, test_implant_registry 42/42, test_implant_app_lifecycle 36/36

Workstream 4 (Option A sequencing via loading_screen + SimBridge
connect) lands next.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 2189a9addd fix(simulation): address PR #56 review — pipeline extraction, ActiveDialogue, range check
Tyre #1: Extract run_dialogue_pipeline() shared helper — eliminates ~60
lines of duplication between process_talk_interaction and
process_dialogue_response (L1-L4 pipeline).

Hoshe #1: process_dialogue_response now updates ActiveDialogue with
current tick on follow-up selection — prevents stale started_tick.

Tyre #4: process_dialogue_response now updates InteractionMemory on
follow-up — multi-turn conversations are visible in history.

Hoshe #6 / Tyre #6: handle_dialogue_response adds server-side range
check (CLOSE_RANGE), matching Talk/Confront pattern (D-010 info
boundary).

Hoshe #2: Weighted selection fallback replaced with unreachable!() —
score_line always returns >= 1, so the fallback was dead code.

Hoshe #3: assert!(false, ...) → panic!() in serialization.rs (clippy).

Hoshe #4: SetFacing and TeleportToHub added to roundtrip test.

Hoshe #5: setup_dialogue_response_world inlined (trivial pass-through).

Tyre #2: Doc comment on DialogueCooldownTracker explains per-player-global
design choice (line IDs are NPC-scoped per D-035, no collision risk).

Tyre #3: CONFRONTATION_LINES comment updated with TODO for D-028/D-035
migration.

Tyre #5: DialogueResponse fixture added for cross-language GDScript

jpmschweitzerandClaude Sonnet 4.6 6a7dc915de feat(bridge): add rng_seed to ObserverSnapshot for deterministic replay (#527)
Adds rng_seed: Option<u64> to ObserverSnapshot. The WRONG button (#507) captures
inputs.jsonl and seed.txt for replay, but seed.txt was writing "unavailable"
because the server did not include the RNG seed in ObserverSnapshot.

Changes:
- bridge/types.rs: PROTOCOL_VERSION 9→10, rng_seed field with serde(default,
  skip_serializing_if = "Option::is_none") for backward compatibility
- perception/observer/mod.rs: inject Res<SimRng> into compute_observer_snapshot,
  populate rng_seed: Some(rng.seed()) each tick
- All test files: add rng_seed: None to ObserverSnapshot constructors
- tests/serialization.rs: bump protocol_version_constant assertion 9→10
- Regenerate msgpack fixtures and golden file for protocol v10

Completes the WRONG button capture loop: replays can now fully reproduce
observed bugs with the exact RNG seed from the capture.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 4d8fe996fc feat(perception): add cognitive delay system for fog recognition (#423)
New CognitiveDelay component buffers perception events before emitting
KnowledgeEvents. Normal delay: 6 ticks (0.6s), urgent: 3 ticks (0.3s).
Drain system runs after emit_observation_events, before process_knowledge_events.

Adds pending_recognitions to ObserverSnapshot (protocol v7) for client
fog entity visualization. Includes cancellation when entity leaves LOS.

Monologue fires during delay (not after) per D-060 — cross-system
wiring deferred to follow-up ticket #451.

Ref: D-060 (cognitive delay), D-031 (10 tps), D-059 (fog layers)

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 98f4cedc03 feat(simulation): Sprint 6 Touch — stance, tile presence, verbs, protocol v6
Implements the core Sprint 6: Touch systems across 5 tickets:

- #449 ObserverSnapshot v6: add player_stance (MovementStance) and
player_inventory (Vec<InventoryItem>) wire fields with serde defaults
for backward compatibility. Bump PROTOCOL_VERSION 5→6.

- #417 Stance system: Sprint/Walk/Careful/Crouch movement stance with
tick-based speed (1/2/3/4 ticks per move), monologue rate multipliers,
and PlayerMoveCooldown component. ToggleStanceUp/Down player actions.

- #420 TilePresence: posture-layer collision system allowing same-tile
  occupancy for different layers (Standing/Prone/Seated/Fixture).
  Layer-based collision in validate_movement.

- #421 ObjectType component: Readable/Container/Terminal/Door/Pickup/
Furniture types with Phase 1 verb sets computed from type + proximity.

- #422 Phase 2 verb filter: KG-gated observer-side verb processing —
POI priority flips, Confront injection at KnowsDetails+, contradiction
  marking, archetype-specific label relabeling (Smuggler/Detective).

217 unit tests + 17 integration tests passing. All MessagePack fixtures
regenerated for v6 wire format.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 3c106aa2d0 feat(simulation): complete interaction and monologue pipelines (#413, #414, #415)
Three fixes to make the gameplay loop functional end-to-end:

- Add Interactable component to NPC spawn so E-prompt detection works
- Build monologue trigger system (enter_location + time_idle) with
  MonologueBuffer/MonologueState components, wire through ObserverSnapshot
as current_monologue field, decode on client and display via HUD
- Change PlayerAction::Interact from unit to struct variant carrying
  optional target_entity_id and verb fields

Bumps protocol version from 4 to 5. Regenerates MessagePack fixtures.
All 200 tests pass (170 unit + 30 integration).

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 29c5003403 fix(simulation): add TileKind to VisibleTile wire protocol (#412)
Server was sending visible_tiles without tile type data, so the client
could not distinguish floor from wall in live mode. Add TileKind enum
(Floor/Wall/Door/Object) to VisibleTile, populated from WalkabilityMap
in the NaturalVision perception query. Update test fixtures to include
the new field. Uses #[serde(default)] for backward compatibility.

jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 9c0190c7c2 feat(simulation): integrate knowledge graph into observer snapshot (#366)
VisibleEntity now carries relationship state (D-033 entity color) and
observation type (Visible vs Remembered). compute_observer_snapshot
queries the player's KnowledgeGraph to overlay relationship data on
visible entities and include remembered (not-in-LOS) entities as fog
ghosts at their last known position. Regenerated msgpack fixtures.
