- P1: wiki/factions/index.md — replace canonical "Local Factions /
The Ring" table row with a prose note, since the-ring.md was
rewritten in #865 as a generic informal-contraband-network
archetype rather than a named local faction.
- P2: wiki/factions/lattice-commission.md — replace The Ring
cross-refs (table row + Cross-References list) with generic
"informal contraband networks" framing; add D-193 cross-ref.
- P3: wiki/factions/lattice-commission.md — rewrite "Gameplay
Presence" section. Removed v0.1 smuggler/detective framing
(THE FRIEND detective path, Commission kiosk in logistics hub,
"detective's arrival" language) and replaced with corridor-
wide structural description: certification inspectors,
field investigators, compliance kiosks, audit cadence.
- P5: wiki/factions/lattice-commission.md — refresh `updated:`
timestamp to 2026-04-22.
Warnings (9):
- H1-H4: saigon-consulting, haesungdan-records, calluna-wellness,

- P4: lusaka-advisory — added documentary anchor to the concealed
fact. The cross-engagement reference ledger (internal partner-
only document maintained since 2052 restructuring) and the
2058 partner-retreat memo declining to present it in dispute
forums are the investigative surface. Addresses Paula's note
that the original concealed fact existed entirely in partners'
heads with no documentary trail.
Not fixed (documented as false positives — verified clean on
branch):
- M1: glossary.md line 19 NOT-list does not contain "Lattice
Commission" (Mellanie removed it in the D-193 commit;
reviewer likely reading a stale snapshot).
- M2-M5: Van Maanen / Station Sova references in
mastroianni-vehicle-group, ferreira-monteiro, gate-corporation,
stalownia-kowalski — all four files grep clean (#865 Bucket C
rewrote them).
- M8: wiki/star-systems/GJ-35/sova/transit/index.md was deleted
in commit 25eb8bd0 — file cannot be fixed.
Info-only comments (P6, P7, M6, M7) left as advisory notes
for future deepening passes.

Overview
Thorngate Media produces long-form documentary and investigative journalism content rooted in the north reach. The company's output has, over forty years, established a distinctive form: methodical, unhurried reporting on the economic and social structures of the north reach corridor — agricultural communities, extraction industries, local governance, and the relationships between north reach populations and the inward systems they trade with. The form is investigative in the classical sense, not in the sensationalist one. Thorngate documentaries end with accountability rather than revelation, and they take years to produce.
The company is widely regarded, within the north reach and in reaches of the inward corridor that pay attention to documentary journalism, as one of the few genuinely independent production organizations in the region. The regard is based on a track record of work that has, on several occasions, produced uncomfortable findings for industries and institutions operating in the corridor. Thorngate is the organization that covers the north reach as it is, not as it wants to be seen.
This reputation is largely earned. The commissioned works are where it becomes complicated.
Origin
Thorngate was founded forty-one years ago at Crown's Hollow by a journalist who had spent a decade working for core corridor news organizations and had grown dissatisfied with what the core corridor's editorial culture treated as the scope of legitimate investigation. The founding premise was geographic: the north reach was systemically underreported, and the organizations best positioned to cover it operated primarily for audiences that treated it as background context.
The first decade was financially difficult. Thorngate funded its work through grants from north reach system cultural bodies and through commercial documentation work — industrial histories, institutional commemoratives — that paid for the investigative capacity they wanted to maintain. The investigative work gradually built the reputation that attracted the distribution relationships and the subscriber base that now fund it.
The commercial documentation work never fully stopped.
Operations
Original investigative journalism: Long-form documentaries and serialized investigative pieces on north reach economic and social subjects. These are the Thorngate work that builds and maintains the organization's reputation. Production timelines are long: a significant documentary takes two to four years from first reporting to distribution.
Distribution: Thorngate's catalogue distributes through Open Corridor Stream for independent access and through Reach Archive Standard for institutional deposit and preservation. Several works have been picked up by Reach Standard Media for reach-wide broadcast.
Commercial documentation: Industry histories, institutional anniversary documentaries, public record documentaries for system governments — work commissioned by the subjects it covers, produced to the client's documentary purposes. This work is filed with the Lattice Commission's media licensing body under the "commissioned content" disclosure requirement.
Workforce: Fourteen journalists and producers, plus research and production support staff at the Crown's Hollow facility.
Political Relationships
Reach Standard Media: Has broadcast three Thorngate investigative documentaries on its reach-wide network. The relationship is a licensing and distribution agreement; Reach Standard Media has no editorial authority over Thorngate content.
Ashwick Broadcasting: A competitor in the reach-wide documentary space. Ashwick has broader reach but Thorngate has the north reach-specific depth. The two organizations occasionally pursue the same subjects from different starting positions.
Reach Archive Standard: Thorngate's institutional archive deposit relationship. All completed documentary work is deposited with RAS as a matter of organizational policy.
What They Don't Talk About
Thorngate's commissioned content — the industrial histories, institutional documentaries, and system government records — is filed with the Commission's media licensing body under the disclosure framework for commercially funded content. The filing is a regulatory requirement; the information is in the public register, accessible to anyone who queries the register by producer name.
The disclosure is not in the credited works themselves. Commissioned Thorngate documentaries are distributed with the same credit format as the organization's independent investigative work: produced by Thorngate Media, with named journalists and researchers. The commercial relationship that funded the work is not in the credits. It is not in the promotional materials. It is not mentioned in the distribution catalogue descriptions.
In four cases over the past fifteen years, commissioned works have covered subjects — industrial practices, a system government's economic development program, a commodity producer's labor practices — where the commissioning client was the primary subject of the documentary. The works are not false. Thorngate does not produce false work for its commissioned clients; the facts it presents are accurate. The framing, emphasis, and selection of which questions to pursue was conducted with the awareness that the client had commissioned the work.
None of the four audiences who watched those documentaries were told that the commissioning relationship existed.
Gameplay Relevance
Thorngate Media is a north reach cultural institution — a journalism organization with genuine credibility and a more complicated financial structure than its public profile suggests. Its documentary archive is a primary source for investigative work involving north reach industries.
The commissioned work disclosure is the investigative thread. A player who queries the Commission's media licensing register for Thorngate filings will find the commissioned content disclosures. Comparing those against Thorngate's public catalogue identifies the four documentaries that were commercially funded by their subjects. The original commission agreements are in Thorngate's files.
The investigative team members who produced the commissioned works are aware of the commercial relationships. Whether they were aware of how uncommon it is for commissioned content to be distributed without audience disclosure — and what they think of it — is a question the world can answer.
