GJ 117 is an empty through_route at the edge of the east_reach — two apertures, one toward GJ 434 and through it toward Taishan, one toward GJ 211 in the deep corridor. The M-dwarf is a dim red primary with a stable habitable zone and no obvious settlement barrier. The surveys were done. Nothing was wrong. No one came.

The timing was unfavorable. The east_reach push extended this corridor during an era of confident expansion, but the systems that might have seeded settlement here had their populations absorbed into closer, more connected communities during the Secession period's economic contraction. GJ 117 remained on the charts as an open route rather than a destination.

At hop 7, it sees genuine transit traffic — vessels moving between the east_reach's outer corridors and the deep frontier systems beyond GJ 211. Most of that traffic passes through without slowing. The in-system passage between apertures is clean and unremarkable. Navigation broadcasts from the automated relay indicate no anomalies. The relay's most recent log entry is current; someone, somewhere, is still maintaining it — possibly the Commission through Taishan, possibly on automated schedule with human oversight in name only.

Unsettled through_route at hop 7 with no settlement barrier is a mild anomaly; justified by historical timing rather than physical obstacle. The transit connection between GJ 434 and GJ 211 makes it structurally significant despite being empty.

The outer planet Doi Kaeo (Thai: 'crystal peak') was named by a Thai-heritage survey team that passed through GJ 117 during the east_reach corridor-mapping runs — one of several teams who left Thai place-names on unsettled bodies along the route. Survey teams name what they find; the names outlast the teams. Doi Kaeo has been on the charts under that name for over two hundred years without anyone living there to use it.
