Overview
The north reach's agricultural economy depends on data it cannot generate without instruments. Climate monitoring for crop planning, soil analysis for yield optimization, remote sensing for the large holdings that cannot be walked in a day — these functions require hardware that functions reliably in cold-climate conditions, is repairable at the system rather than requiring transit to a service center, and is priced within reach of the agricultural operations it serves. Grampian Systems supplies this hardware.
The company is not glamorous in the way precision technology firms with high-visibility institutional clients might be. Its customers are farmers, distillery operations, and the small industrial concerns that support them. Its instruments appear in field installations and grain storage facilities and cold-weather monitoring stations, doing work that is noticed only when they fail. This invisibility is characteristic of genuinely functional infrastructure, and Grampian's market position — dominant in the north reach agricultural instrumentation sector for fifty years — reflects that it has earned the invisibility.
The company also holds a minority financial position in the institution whose business decisions depend most directly on Grampian's data accuracy. This position is not advertised.

Drummond's founding product — a temperature and humidity monitoring unit specifically calibrated for Calloway Reach's climate range and built with components tolerant of the freeze-thaw cycling that destroyed inward equivalents — found immediate adoption at the larger agricultural holdings. The company grew by expanding the product line to cover the full range of monitoring and sensing functions that north reach agriculture required, always with the same specification philosophy: built for where it would be used, not for where it would be tested.

The CAA equity position is the investigative thread. The financial disclosure exists in Grampian's Commission filings. The calibration audit records are internal. The question of whether calibration decisions have been influenced by the insurance relationship requires access to both the calibration documentation and the claims outcomes data. A claims adjuster at CAA who has noticed systematic patterns in instrument readings from insured properties is a potential source.
Fieldborn Grain and the Calloway distillery supply chain also run through Grampian's instrumentation — the instruments that measure grain quality at storage, that monitor fermentation conditions, that provide the data underlying agricultural quality certifications.
The dual-position problem does not require active corruption to produce distorted outcomes. A calibration engineer at Grampian making routine instrument adjustments — trying to reduce false-positive alerts that generate unnecessary farmer complaints, for instance — produces calibration drift that systematically shifts readings in one direction. The engineer is solving an engineering problem; the calibration log is accurate; the effect on insurance outcomes is real but not intentional. This is the version of the problem that is most difficult to demonstrate and most likely to be what is actually happening.
