C1 (Tyre): the DeriveWindow branch re-ran the ~45ms run_layer1 for
EVERY uncached window — the dominant pan-around-one-body path paid
~52ms per new window while the doc claimed one-time-per-body.
TerrainAnalysisCache: private per-body LRU (capacity 8, ~2MB/entry,
true access-recency eviction — which body the player keeps panning IS
a recency signal) held as Arc<Mutex<>> on GenerationQueue itself, the
in_flight field pattern, because run_work_item executes on a Rayon
worker where the main-thread caches are unreachable. DeriveWindow now
calls get_or_derive; the variant doc states the real model (first
window per body pays ~45ms once; subsequent windows any center/n hit
the LRU; eviction re-pays). End-to-end test proves two windows on one
body via two connections share exactly one cache entry.
C3 (Tyre): the determinism test reused one TerrainAnalysis — proving
the packer, not the derivation. New test runs run_layer1 twice
independently, asserts field-by-field analysis agreement, then
byte-identical packed windows end to end (D-227 save-critical proof).
Packer-only test kept alongside.
atlas:: 564/564; full lib 1778/1778; timing-sensitive suites 3x stable.

AtlasLayerRequest gains window_center/window_n (serde-default, absent
= whole-body, wire back-compat; demux untouched — up_to stays the
discriminator). DistrictWindowLayer echoes center/n + six parallel
arrays (morphology, elev_q, temp_dc i16 with the region sentinel,
moisture_q, vegetation incl Marine=6, glaciation).
Serving per the amendment's binding model: NEVER inline —
GenWorkItem::DeriveWindow rides the Rayon queue, completion drain
caches into DistrictWindowCache (bounded FIFO 256; no staleness by
D-227 purity, capacity bound only), serve_district_window polls the
cache and returns Pending-shaped None until derived. Per-connection
coalescing: submit_window supersedes a still-pending item for the
same (ConnectionId, body) — the surviving item is the newer one,
proven by dedicated tests.
TerrainAnalysis decision (option b, numbers in ticket/PR): re-derive
via run_layer1 in the DeriveWindow branch rather than caching ~1.5MB
x 50 LRU slots (~100MB permanent, the exact D-203 bloat T-1044's own
text guarded against); ~45ms one-time on the Rayon path, invisible to
the tick thread. T-1044 confirmed within-cascade-only (cascade.rs:358
still drops the analysis before BodyWorldState) — the fork was open.
Window derive loop promoted from aliveness_probe::render_window_panels;
determinism promoted from probe-only proof to a real test (two passes
byte-identical). New fixture atlas_response_ready_with_window
exercises all six arrays incl. the airless sentinel and Marine; three
existing fixtures gain district_window: None. Server clamps window_n
to 1..=DISTRICT_WINDOW_MAX_N=64 (never trust the wire).
1774/1774 lib + 19/19 bridge_tcp green.

All five findings applied, none touching the option-(c) carrier choice:
(1) SS2 gains a binding windowed-family ceiling — exactly ONE
windowed-query field; a second windowed query is a dedicated response
message by rule (two concurrent windowed payloads would need the
per-field request-correlation that IS the tagged framing — that is the
trigger to build it); symmetric with the request side's five-hard cap.
(2) SS1 gains a binding serving model — window derives ride the same
Rayon queue + Pending pattern as whole-body cache misses, never inline
in the PreInput drain (which the codebase deliberately keeps expensive
work off); per-connection coalescing recommended; SS4's 7/29ms figures
reframed as worker latency, not tick-thread cost. (3) The
layer_proxy.rs growth-ceiling comment (comment-only diff) now records
the T-1124 ruling as RESOLVED — scoped to the dense whole-body family,
district_window outside it, second windowed field = dedicated-message
migration — instead of deferring to an open design question. (4) SS2
documents that body scoping rides the enclosing AtlasLayerResponse
envelope (cache key body_id+center+n; echo disambiguates within-body).
(5) SS5 entry clarified: zoom threshold alone triggers the swap
(works over open ocean), first window centers on the pan-center's
derived DistrictPos; downstream settlement-anchoring phrasing
reconciled.
pql decisions validate clean.

ZoningType gains PartialOrd/Ord (DistrictType T-994 mirror) for the
dominant_zoning declaration-order tie-break. layer_proxy:
QuarterFootprintEntry/QuarterFootprintLayer (BTreeMap keyed by
city_id; density_avg_pct floor-mean, dominant_* mode with
declaration-order tie-break, landmark/corridor counts) +
build_quarter_footprint_layer gated None on empty state.quarters;
sixth AtlasLayerResponse field wired into all construction sites;
growth-ceiling doc updated to say the whole-body budget is consumed
(what carries a seventh is T-1124's design, resolved in the same
branch's amendment). Placements whose derived Layer4Quarter id is not
yet in state.quarters are SKIPPED (skeleton gen is async Low-priority
— entries may be a proper subset; client decodes defensively). Stale
TODO(#957) removed (premise predates T-957 landing).
Tie-break bug caught by its own test: Iterator::max_by_key over a
BTreeMap returns the LAST max on ties — backwards from
declaration-order-first; replaced with an explicit forward walk that
replaces only on strictly-greater count.
gen_fixtures: populated RegionGridLayer (T-1118 replay coverage) +
QuarterFootprintLayer literals in the ready fixture; msgpack fixtures
regenerated via make fixtures. Note: landmark_count is inert on real
data today (BlockSkeleton.landmark hardcoded None until landmark
placement lands); fixtures use non-zero counts to exercise the logic.
5 new unit tests + populated round-trip; atlas:: 549 green.

Hoshe's finding: the H1 union-rejection mechanism correctly counts the
new browse discriminator, but ambiguous_union_frame_is_rejected was
carried over from PR #176 without a browse-inclusive case — a future
demux/ShapeProbe refactor could drop the fifth shape from the union
check with nothing to catch it. Adds browse+star_map and
browse+city_names union frames, both asserting rejection.

PathBuf::from("data/systems.db") was cwd-relative, and a spawned
server inherits GODOT's cwd — which is client/ (Godot's --path client
chdirs), so CultureResolver, CityContextReader, BodySourceResolver and
BrowseReader all silently failed in every make atlas / make game
spawn. Wave 1 masked it: the star map serves from star_map_data.json,
so 'renders 301 systems' never touched the DB; T-1133's browser was
the first DB-backed consumer to hit it live (Stig, /proc/PID/cwd).
resolve_systems_db_path(): exe-anchored <exe_dir>/../../data/systems.db
first (cwd-independent — the actual fix), then cwd-relative
data/systems.db (cd server && cargo run), then server/data/systems.db
(repo-root invocations); first existing candidate wins, info-logged.
Pure systems_db_candidates() split out as the testable seam (5 unit
tests — incl. pinning Path::parent() of a bare filename = Some(""),
not None). world_root now derives from the resolved ABSOLUTE path so
its ancestors().nth(3) arithmetic holds unconditionally instead of
silently falling back to ".." when canonicalize failed.
Verified all three launch styles; make atlas spawn shows 5 reader fds
open on server/data/systems.db via /proc/PID/fd.

browse_reader.rs: BrowseReader on the CityContextReader::open() pattern
— six index + six detail reads against systems.db (bodies filterable by
containing system; system/corporation/commodity details fold their join
partners). browse_proxy.rs: BrowseRequest{browse, kind, query} /
BrowseResponse{kind, status, index, detail} wire types + dispatcher;
BrowseIndexRow{id, primary, secondary} generic across kinds;
BrowseDetail a per-kind enum of field-exhaustive structs.
Demux: Inbound::BrowseRequest is the FIFTH map shape — deliberately the
last; the doc's four-shape ceiling is re-pinned at five with rationale
(six kinds x two forms folded into ONE envelope whose internal enums
pick sub-behavior, the AtlasLayerRequest.up_to precedent, instead of
twelve top-level shapes) and a hard rule that a sixth shape must
migrate to the D-225 tagged-envelope framing. Served for BOTH roles,
connection-tagged 1:1 in-order like atlas/starmap/citynames.
serve_browse_requests pub so integration tests drive the true
end-to-end pipeline. Wire-only per D-254 (T-949 precedent); v1
exclusions (cascade geometry, event logs) respected.
30 unit tests + 7 bridge_tcp integration tests (six-kind round-trip
over real TCP, reader-can-browse, no crossed responses between two
readers, unknown-id NotFound, empty-table Ready); 2 pre-existing tests
updated for the new receive_bridge_inputs parameter.

ConnectionRole (Player|Reader, serde-default Player for wire back-compat;
shaped for a future TradingReader) on StartupMessage. BridgeResource
rewritten as 0-1 Player + 0-N Readers with ConnectionId; per-tick
accept_new_connections loop replaces the single blocking accept (the
listener is cloned non-blocking into ConnectionListener). First
connection installs per startup.role — spawn-mode Readers are often the
only connection a server gets.
Permitted-message matrix: readers may handshake and issue
Atlas/StarMap/CityNames requests (responses connection-tagged, own
requests only); PlayerInput from a reader is dropped with a strike
(disconnect at 3); ObserverSnapshot has no reader-facing path at all.
Shutdown scope: only a PLAYER send failure flips ServerRunning —
reader-only servers idle with the snapshot queued; reader disconnects
never kill the session.
Deliberately out of scope, documented at the call site: character spawn
stays in monolithic world-setup (reader-first servers carry an inert
unpiloted PlayerCharacter); no total-reader-count cap (per-reader frame
cap only, loopback-only scope).
6 new bridge_tcp integration tests; layer3 subprocess test exercises the
accept-loop end to end.

Mechanical call-site updates (7) for the invent_primitives signature;
believability golden regenerated via UPDATE_GOLDEN=1. Deltas are
deliberate: slope_q/elev_q spreads widen, vegetation_classes +1
(Marine), water-districts-wet coherence reaches 46/46 and 19/19
(T-1082 class closed — classification and coastline are the same line).
Reductions (ocean_fraction distinct, morphology_zones on GJ244Ad)
are the eager pseudo-grid point-sampling coasts honestly instead of
area-averaging them into synthetic intermediates; believability
coast-sampling resolution is Q-123 calibration territory. All 37
derivation-harness law checks unchanged.

aliveness_probe --render gains a 6th glaciation panel; glaciated
districts get an ice tint keyed on GlaciationGrade, and Marine
vegetation renders [0,96,172] — distinct from the morphology water
tones so district-carrier vs voxel-generator disagreement stays
visible in ladders.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Renders true-2km district maps (derive_district per cell, NOT the coarse eager grid) as PNGs: morphology (17-zone palette transliterated from atlas_marker_overlay.gd, sync-commented), elev/temp/moisture/vegetation panels, anchor crosshair, km-honest filenames + manifest. believability.rs gains cascade_snapshot_for_body (cascade_for_body now a thin wrapper); probe re-derives the D-203-freed TerrainAnalysis via run_layer1 only under --render. Determinism proven: 5/5 panels byte-identical across passes AND cross-process (md5s reproduced in a fresh run). ~8us/district debug. First-ever look at the district layer produced the T-1125/T-1126/T-1127 findings (D-227 seam ends at ~500km; ocean-blind vegetation; unrendered glaciation).

F1: T-1112 amendment touch-point list gains the ZoningType PartialOrd/Ord derive (mirroring DistrictType's T-994 precedent) so the dominant_zoning declaration-order tie-break is computable. F2: stale terminal-layer doc on AtlasLayerRequest.up_to corrected to Region. F3: believability cascade_for_body bumped to Region — harness mirrors production depth, invariant documented. F4: end-to-end dispatch coverage — populated-regions test asserts regions + second handle_atlas_request returns region_grid; no-params sibling asserts regions empty. Suites: layer_proxy 10, believability 4, gen_queue 8, cascade 10.

CascadeLayer::Region appended per the enum's append-only Ord rule (depends only on seed/body_params/heightmap dims — documented); BodyWorldState.regions BTreeMap per the districts precedent; RegionGridLayer dense row-major all-integer encoding (season/weather repr(u8) discriminants, mean_temp deci-degC i16 with i16::MIN airless sentinel, moisture_q u8); build_region_grid mirrors build_district_grid; protocol.gd region_grid passthrough (visual overlay deliberately out of scope); wire fixtures regenerated via make fixtures. atlas:: suite 507 green.

is_standalone_hq threaded through CityRecord/CityPlacement via corporations LEFT JOIN (both readers); hubs = top-cap by population among non-HQ settlements (HUB_SPACING_DIAG_PX=64, HUB_CAP_MIN=6); exact-name collapse keeping lowest city_id with loud warn; nearest-point-on-polyline snap (SNAP_MAX_PX=8) with Junction edge-split preserving from<to via norm_edge, else A*-spur to nearest hub; FoundingOrientation::RailHeadFacing{bearing_degrees} assigned at degree>=3 junctions (octant bearing toward dominant incident edge), consumed by skeleton_gen railhead_edge() through the D-234b flush-frontage machinery; believability reader now honours baked settlement_class (stale hardcode since T-1075). 11 new targeted tests; existing suites green.

95->11 Standalone / 60->144 CityTenant per Jeroen's boundary ruling: only extraction/mining/quarrying, heavy vehicle+shipyard, heavy energy, gate infrastructure keep their own settlements; craft/consumer manufacturing, agriculture offices, high-tech fabs flip to CityTenant. Cygni pin moved to Metropolis (its HQ settlement vanishes under the flip). Regen systems.db: 340 city rows, 129 tenant links, fixpoint stable.

H1+H2: headquarters_body is reset+derived every run (DB is never source); optional authored frontmatter override, hard-validated; tiebreak now population DESC -> city-bearing body -> type rank -> body_id, preserving belt tenancies and fixing GJ702B to GJ702Bb. T2: NULL-reset pass for corp_specialization/hq_placement before authored re-apply (poison-tested). T1: wiki/corporations/*.md globbed into IMPORT_ECONOMICS_SOURCES. M1: licensed_clinical_services vocabulary value (31st, NonPhysical->CityTenant) + somatic-futures retag. Fixpoint verified stable across 4 consecutive regens (0 diffs); regen systems.db.

H1 demux: ShapeProbe defensive multi-shape rejection (union frames now Err, not first-match; +2 tests) and doc claim made honest. H2/T1 SystemIndex.reset_test_state() folded into SimBridge.reset_test_state() (load() inline per autoload rule) + has_pending_request() accessor. H3 no-op tests now assert the replay flag both directions. H4 retry test actually ingests a failure and asserts the retry semantic. H5 error fixture uses the normalized status string. H6 bridge_tcp e2e sends all five frame shapes over real TCP (star-map + city-names buffers asserted). H7 positive replay-on-CONNECTED test via the test_local_bridge test-mode-flip precedent (stub bridge captures + decodes the request bytes). H8/T2 stale PLACEHOLDER doc replaced with the confirmed contract. H9 is_capital doc matches the COALESCE reality. T-r1 demux ceiling written down (next shape = tagged envelope). T-r2 AtlasLayerResponse governance ceiling comment. Lead item: the four cargo-fmt-formatted files from the gate round are now committed (layer_proxy/plugin/bridge-mod/main). H10 note for the record: the 13 snapshot_*.msgpack fixtures in commit 845737617 were regenerated because they were stale against their own generator (pre-existing version-key removal) — verified harmless, no client reads that key.

fmt: atlas_data_proxy.rs test code. godot-cold-parse: the cold parse re-seeds the class cache WITHOUT addon classes (gdUnit4's GdUnitTestCIRunner missing), leaving tests/run-godot unable to start (0 tests / 355ms — caught by the pre-push gate running the suite right after this script). The script now restores a full cache via a final --import pass before exiting; the cold verdict is unaffected.

T-960: RoadGraphLayer (L2 edges/junctions, MaintenanceAuthority, rail flag, named routes) + SettlementLayer (name/position/size-class/is_capital/is_port from T-955 placements) as new Option fields on AtlasLayerResponse — T-1046 precedent; layer_proxy doc comment corrected (cascade runs through RoadGraph, client up_to ignored). T-949: new StarMapRequest/StarMapResponse (raw JSON passthrough of the star_map_data.json bake) + CityNamesRequest/CityNamesResponse (atlas_city_names via CityContextReader) with defense-in-depth Sol exclusion (GJ-0 system id OR settlement_wave='origin', D-236). Inbound demux extended with mandatory boolean discriminator fields (serde ignores unknown fields — optional-shape sniffing would be ambiguous); AtlasLayerRequest unchanged. SimBridge trait +2 methods, implemented on TcpBridge + LocalBridge. CityPlacement/CityRecord gained name/population/is_capital (BodyWorldState cache-hit path stays DB-free). ~30 new unit tests incl. demux disambiguation + Sol branches; gen_fixtures extended for road/settlement samples.

D-226 layer 1. World-advancing phases gated on pause: Movement/Storyteller/Knowledge/TickAdvance set-gated via sim_not_paused; Simulation + Economy gated per-system at their registration sites — collect_sound_events and serve_econ_state_query stay unconditioned (transient-buffer clear + paused-allowed query; set-gating Simulation leaked a stale tick-7 footstep into frozen snapshots — caught by golden_suite, fixed without touching the fixture; regression test encodes the bug shape). New PlayerAction::AutoPause/AutoResume + AutoPauseState resource implement Option A reconciliation: auto-resume only fires if auto-pause caused the pause; manual pause and Half rate survive implant open/close. PauseParams SystemParam bundle keeps process_player_input under the 16-param ceiling (BookmarkInputParams precedent). Client: HudGroups.gameplay_occluded now sends AutoPause/AutoResume via send_named_action; 5 gdUnit tests + 7 Rust tests.

H1: guard that each axis value is a {token=weight} table before .items() —
a scalar (wall = 15000) or the array shape (wall = ["steel_frame"], a
plausible copy-paste from the sibling catalog's visual_bundle) now yields a
clean V-TT-06 error instead of a bare AttributeError. Mirrors the isinstance
guards already on zone_map and axes.
H2: exclude bool from the positive-integer weight check (weight = true is an
int subclass, previously slipped through as 1) — matches the guard
populate_color_register_bands already applies to its own values.
Two new ZoneBiasValidationTests cover both branches.

T-988 — BuildingExteriorTag {wall_material, roof_form, facade_rhythm,
setback_tier, color:HsvColor, street_surface}. New trait_exterior.rs:
3-step era-free derivation (visual_bundle filter -> zone-bias weighted
pick -> density->setback), color seed-sampled within the register band.
Resolved at GenerateSkeleton plan time (T-994 precedent), frozen on
BuildingPropertyTag; FillChunk only reads it. Four append-only
integer-discriminant enums (WallMaterial/RoofForm/FacadeRhythm/
StreetSurface), unknown token -> axis Generic + warn. trait_catalog_reader
now parses visual_bundle + the two new tables (OnceLock-cached).
New SeedDomain::TraitExterior (per-axis sub-chains — no cross-field
correlation).
T-959 — FillChunk reads the frozen exterior tag: wall_material/roof_form
onto Wall/Roof shell voxels (FilledChunk.surface_material). Additive,
ShellVoxel untouched, all shell tests pass. (Interstitial-fill-from-setback
split to T-1098 — needs a FillChunk block-metadata + geometry design pass;
nothing consumes FillChunk until Phase 5.)
T-1097 — BlockSkeleton.interstitial_character (OpenSpace|OperationsSurface),
D-233 bulk-driven: bulk-industry blocks' non-roofed remainder tags as built
economic infrastructure, not generic open space.
cargo check --all-targets clean; 1666 lib tests pass; no golden impact
(harnesses top out at CascadeLayer::RoadGraph, unreachable by Layer 4/5).

Ratified content baked into systems.db as two new tables:
- architecture_zone_bias (57 rows): sparse per-template, per-zone_type
token-weight overrides (integer bps), Miri-authored — the D-235 step-2
zone bias. V-TT-06: every token must exist in that template's own
visual_bundle axis.
- color_register_bands (28 rows): per color_register integer HSV bands
(hue centidegrees, sat/val bps), Araminta-authored. V-TT-07: full
catalog coverage + valid integer bounds (min<max, in range).
Both TOMLs registered in generator_sources (stamp coverage); DDL in
systems-schema.sql + migration.py; validation wired into import_economics
steps 18/19 and test_traits.py failure-branch units (make test-tooling).
systems.db regenerated + re-stamped.

T1: heritage corridor_pool excluded from the ordinary phase-1 lottery and
coverage repair (D-232 reserves the heritage sub-pool for the remoteness
dial); reachable via hero pin, necessity swerve, and the T-1003 heritage
pool only. 3 new tests.
T2+H4: coverage repair no longer grows trait_selection past K when all
slots are pinned (phase-2 necessity swerve serves the type instead);
runtime warn when authored pins exceed K; V-TT-05 importer guardrail
bounds pins per body at 5 (max ComplexityTier K). 2 new tests + 2 python
tests.
H1: body-level dispatch aggregation extracted to pure
aggregate_body_dispatch_inputs + tested directly (union mix, MAX
prosperity/K); threading test asserts identical vocabulary/pools across
co-body settlements with per-settlement swerve rates. 2 new tests.
H2: tooling/economy-db/test_traits.py — 14 stdlib unittest cases over
V-TT-03/04/05 failure branches, wired into make test-tooling.
H3: hard-gate JSON parsers now tracing::warn on malformed blobs (silent
gate-widening) matching the sibling map parsers.
H5: catalog read memoized (OnceLock) — SQL+parse once per server run,
bias stays per-body. 1 new test.
T3: TraitDistrict seed-domain doc aligned with the two-level derive chain.
T4: D-225 misattribution dropped from the reader module doc.
systems.db regenerated + stamped (traits.py is a stamped source).
Gates: full cargo test 1638 green (goldens intact), clippy -D warnings,
ruff, make test-tooling (now incl. the traits units).

T-994 — three-phase draw replacing the flat splitmix64 flavor pick:
- Phase 1 body K-draw (trait_draw.rs): hard gates -> soft weights (two-part
geographic_sector join, PR #148) -> SeedChain::for_body-seeded weighted
draw of K (5/3/1/0 by ComplexityTier), pins count toward K, coverage-aware
over a new body-level district-type-mix aggregate threaded into
CityGenerationContext at L3->L4 dispatch.
- Phase 2 district-dominant pick keyed by the D-243 2048m District cell —
settlements sharing a cell independently derive the identical template.
Resolved at dispatch, never in FillChunk (T-987 stays pure).
- trait_catalog_reader.rs: systems.db reader for trait_templates +
atlas_body_trait_bias (D-225 resource pattern), registered in main.rs
with graceful degradation.
- BlockSkeleton carries district_type; assign_block_tags is a pure lookup.
T-1003 — deviation/swerve system (trait_swerve.rs):
- ArchitectureFlavorRef is now InVocabulary(u8) | Swerve(tag).
- Rare per-building wildcard: foreign-import pool (other corridors +
cross_corridor) driven by Epicenter/Passage tier, mixed faction,
road-graph degree; heritage-callback pool (own-corridor heritage) driven
by isolation, remote tier, founding_age_years. Integer bps, base 100,
cap 300 per driver — placeholder constants pending calibration.
- Sparsity escape hatch = same mechanism, necessity-triggered at the
phase-2 pick (deterministic max-weight over the hard-gate-eligible pool).
- New SeedDomains: TraitVocabulary(13) / TraitDistrict(14) / TraitSwerve(15).
Governance: D-232 amended (district pinned to the D-243 2048m tier — the
D-222/D-243 redefinition was never captured; swerve driver mappings +
placeholder rates recorded), D-229 flavor_ref field updated to the enum
shape, D-235 amended (T-995 vocabulary ratification note; rides here due
to single-file entanglement).

apply_move no longer writes Facing (was the only movement-facing coupling,
player-only); the player's view changes solely via explicit SetFacing.
NPC path-follow now sets Facing to the step direction — a strict improvement
recorded as a D-252 correction: NPCs previously never received Facing from
movement, their cones sat at spawn direction while walking. Bump-to-turn
retired (blocked moves change nothing) with a regression test for each
semantic. Wire schema unchanged; player_facing docs now say view/aim.
Gauntlet fixtures regenerated (facing octants now reflect view-only
semantics); client replay + live-roundtrip suites green against the new
server.

Tyre's re-review found the C1 !Barren guard only covered the Grassland arm — the Wetland arm was an unconditional => true. Since derive_morphology_zone has no temperature gate, a frozen + wet + flat district still yields Wetland material, so the wetland palette would paint copse/bog onto frozen marsh: the exact C1 symptom via the material path. Not a regression (the arm was unchanged) and unreachable by the 2 harness bodies, but the D-246 amendment + the voxel.rs comment already claim the guarantee universally, so the gate must match the claim.
Gate is now: apply = !Barren && class in {Wetland, Forest, Grassland}. Behavior change is limited to frozen/hyper-arid Wetland districts (a temperate marsh is never Barren-dominant; Forest is Barren-free by construction). believability.json unchanged (neither harness body reaches the frozen-wet case). New regression test mosaic_pass_does_not_revegetate_frozen_wetland; D-246 amendment reworded to the unified gate. Full cargo test green; clippy -D warnings clean.

Hoshe + Tyre review of the micro-habitat-mosaic branch requested changes on two
data-confirmed correctness bugs plus follow-through. All addressed.
Blocking:
- C1 (voxel.rs): the mosaic re-granted vegetation the climate withheld — a frozen
ice world (Edict) read 61% vegetated tundra. The Grassland apply-gate now fires
only where the climate already grants cover (!Barren); a climatically-barren
district (frozen < -50C = surface ice/geology D-239 §2, or hyper-arid moisture<5,
both resolved to VegetationClass::Barren upstream) is skipped. Genuine tundra
(cold + moisture>=15) is Scrub upstream and still reaches the tundra palette via
the same !Barren path. believability.json regenerated: Edict vegetated_districts
39->0, Arbour 20->8 (its real cold-pole/arid districts revert to barren);
intra-class variety preserved (Arbour vegetation_classes 3, micro_habitat_distinct 2).
- H1 (bodies.py): biosphere Gate 0 keyed on `inhabited`, conflating settlement with
biosphere and force-Airless'ing uninhabited-but-alive worlds (D-247: worlds were
alive before humans). Gate 0 is now settlement-independent — keyed on
atmosphere/hydrosphere/planet_class. 24 uninhabited-alive worlds now classified
(was 0); GJ0g-1 (dense atm + rivers) -> NativeMirror. Split 122 Compatible :
121 Mirror; all 9 canon exemplars hold.
Follow-through:
- C2 (bodies.py + D-247): Gate 0 now reads planet_class (barren -> Airless) as
D-247's "+ planet_class" phrasing names. D-247 amended to record the actual
two-gate signal set (atm/hydro/planet_class habitability; economic_base_primary
chirality; settlement-independence).
- C3 (believability.rs): micro_habitat_distinct criterion relaxed to `== 0 || >= 2`
— the min-over-patches estimator makes K=3 unreachable against a dominant-entry
palette; K=2 provisional, Q-123 calibrates.
- C4 + H2 (D-246): amended to record the v1 scope cut — only the Soil-derived
vegetated/wet classes take the mosaic; material-driven families are `_ => false`
so Hardpan/Scree are authored but unreachable in v1; no elevation change in v1;
the mosaic OWNS the §8 climate->vegetation law for the classes it touches.
- H3 (voxel.rs): three dedicated mosaic-pass regression tests — C1 barren-respect,
§8 material-untouched + forest-textured, T-1040 no-water-without-channel.
- H4 (voxel.rs): relief_signal comment corrected to ~[-1,+1].
- H5 (bodies.py): frontmatter override now strips quotes + validates against the
4-value enum (warn-and-skip on typo).
systems.db regenerated + stamped (H1). believability golden regenerated (C1).
Full cargo test green; clippy -D warnings + ruff clean.

The D-247 chirality/edibility register as authored data on every body, via the
stamped regen-db path (import_economics) — not a manual bake.
- systems-schema.sql + migration.py: nullable bodies.biosphere_class column.
- economy_import/bodies.py: populate_biosphere_class — reads the authored
environment.biosphere_class frontmatter override, else the D-247 two-gate default
(Gate 0 habitability from atmosphere/hydrosphere/inhabited; Gate 1 Compatible/Mirror
from economic_base_primary; neutral remainder -> stable ~50/50 split). Recomputes
every body each regen (frontmatter + default are its complete source).
- import_economics.py: wired as import step 17.
- frontmatter overrides for the bodies whose default deviates from canon:
Solandar=NativeMirror, GJ-524=NativeMirror (uninhabited-but-alive), Ha Long=
NativeCompatible (its transit economy hides its aquaculture identity). Linnaeus,
Arbour, Oshima, Freyburg, Puerto Ultimo, Edict all default correctly.
systems.db regenerated + stamped. All 9 canon exemplars verified; distribution is
111 Compatible : 108 Mirror among inhabited alive worlds (~50/50 target), Airless for
uninhabited bodies, TerraformedSterile for thin-atmosphere worlds.
Follow-up (rename completion): propagating Linnaeus to bodies.proper_name in the DB
(still "Cadwal" — proper_name is atlas-CLI-owned, and a wipe+reimport would drop
non-proposal columns like founding_age_years; needs a targeted approach).

The mosaic palette gains a climate-biome dimension for the Grassland surface-class:
savanna / temperate / boreal / tundra now read distinctly rather than collapsing to
one biome-blind palette (the D-246 biome-awareness fix).
- atlas/mosaic.rs: ClimateBiome (from temperature_c + moisture_q) + four biome-keyed
Grassland palettes; palette(class, biome). Savanna carries scattered Forest copses,
tundra carries lichen + sparse bare ground and no forest. §8-safe (veg + water only).
- atlas/voxel.rs: derive the biome; a cold barren district (tundra/boreal) now takes
the sparse mosaic rather than staying blank — worlds that read "0 vegetated / blank"
now read structured-sparse (D-245 climate-appropriateness). vegetated_districts
8→20 and 0→39 on the cold validation bodies.
- data/mosaic_constants.toml: biome-keyed grassland mirror.
- docs/design/alien-ecology-vocabulary.md: Miri's full biome × register naming layer
(the cane/vane/wrack/husk/drum-root native lexicon + Earth-register names) — the
derived-label source for the palette and Phase-5 rendering.
Believability golden regenerated. Full server suite green. Forest biomes and the
introduced-Earth register are the noted continuation.

Sub-chunk mosaic that modulates the D-228 axes into a spatially-coherent,
relief/moisture-conditioned mosaic of micro-habitats within a terrain class —
the fix for the aliveness probe's uniform "Wetland 100%".
- seed.rs: SeedDomain::VoxelMosaic = 12 (append-only; pinned-discriminant guard)
- voxel.rs: five new D-228 axis values (Vegetation::{Meadow,Deadfall,Lichen},
TerrainMaterial::{Hardpan,Scree}); the per-family-gated mosaic pass
- detail_scatter.rs: voxel_mosaic() selection field (~8-64 m band)
- atlas/mosaic.rs: surface-class palette + integer-basis-point weighted selection
with moisture-affinity conditioning; temperate/native baseline palettes
- data/mosaic_constants.toml: source-canonical palette mirror
- believability.rs: micro_habitat_distinct metric + D-245 intra-class criterion
v1 scope (D-246-faithful): modulates vegetation + water only, in the vegetated
classes (Wetland/Forest/Grassland), so the D-239 §8 lithology law is untouched;
water is gated on the T-1040 has_active_channel hydrology rule. Material variants
(hardpan/scree) and the extreme classes are a §8-aware follow-up; the biome-aware
palette variants (T-1085 vocab) extend the baseline before generation.
Goldens regenerated (believability + derivation). Full server suite green.

The push gate's integration tests (not in cargo test --lib) caught two regressions
from the relief change:
- derivation_harness::cross_district_elevation_blend_reduces_seam_step — the relief's
large per-position term (span 300 → ±200 m, far above the compressed elev_q/2 base)
swamped the T-1042 seam measurement and clamped heavily at sea level. Fixes:
(1) shift the voxel-relief octave band to 0.13–1 km (all sub-district, dropping the
2 km octave that competed with elev_q's district role); (2) reduce VOXEL_RELIEF_SPAN_M
300 → 100 so relief stays mostly below the base (fewer sea-level clamp artifacts,
proportional hills); (3) rewrite the seam test's avg_elev to average over an 8 km
multi-wavelength y-transect so the zero-mean relief cancels, isolating the base seam.
- derivation_harness::golden_seed_determinism_regression — legitimate golden refresh
(determinism still holds; elevation values changed intentionally).
Believability relief now ≈22 m mean (was 5 m flat; 59 m at the over-aggressive span 300)
— navigable hills without clamp artifacts, 7/8 criteria. Both goldens regenerated; full
cargo test (38 binaries) + clippy --all-targets -D warnings green. D-239 amendment +
Q-123 item 4 updated to the final span/octave/numbers.

T-1081 review (Hoshe + Tyre): the seed_domain_discriminants_are_pinned test (the
D-224 guard that fails CI if a variant is renumbered — which would silently re-roll
every world's relief field) did not pin the new VoxelRelief = 11. Add the assertion.
Also fold Tyre's two Q-123 calibration notes into item 4: (i) sanity-check the
slope_q*3 + elev_q envelope on a synthetic high-slope body (both terms cap at 100);
(ii) the relief transect is a single diagonal slice (fine for isotropic fBm, revisit
if an anisotropic ridge field is added).

The voxel tier read flat (the D-245 "0–3 m, no hills to navigate by" bug):
family generators set elevation from elev_q at a compressed scale plus only ±4 m
micro-scatter, and detail-scatter's mid-scale relief (D-243 §2) only ever reached
the district tier (elev_q), never per-voxel elevation_m.
- detail_scatter.rs: extract the enveloped-fBm core; add `voxel_relief` at the
0.25–2 km octave band (vs the district 4–40 km band).
- voxel.rs: add the mid-scale relief post-dispatch in derive_voxel_column, body-global
SeedDomain::VoxelRelief seed (position-keyed), f64 truncated to integer metres (D-010).
Envelope = slope_q*3 + elev_q — the coarse heightmap gives slope_q ≈ 0 even on high
ground (Arbour max 13), so elevation must drive ruggedness. Flat families only
(Alluvial/Lava/BraidedDelta/Dune/Meander); the dramatic families already carry strong
internal relief and WaterBody stays at sea level.
- seed.rs: SeedDomain::VoxelRelief (D-224 domain separation).
- believability.rs: new `contrast.voxel_relief_m` metric — mean within-district elevation
range over a 2 km transect (a single 64 m sample chunk is narrower than the relief
band) + a "voxel relief" criterion.
Arbour @ yolo: voxel relief 5 m → 59 m, 6/8 → 7/8 criteria (remaining fail = the
Q-123 vegetation-denominator item). Edict 59 m. Golden regenerated; 1586 lib tests +
believability harness (determinism) pass; clippy -D warnings clean.
D-239 amended (T-1081); Q-123 item 4 updated. Deferred to Q-123/follow-up: the
provisional span + threshold, and a per-body hypsometric absolute-elevation model.

Stack review (Hoshe + Tyre) of T-1083+T-1082+T-1080. Every finding fixed or disposed:
- believability.rs sample_indices: replace the rejection-sampling loop (could stall
when n ≈ take) with deterministic partial Fisher-Yates — O(n), guaranteed
termination, distinct, sorted (Hoshe+Tyre).
- believability.rs drainage proxy: exclude water-body districts (all elev 0, no banks)
and require both wet + dry voxels — they were passing vacuously and inflating the
metric (Hoshe).
- believability.rs read_cities: log skipped malformed rows instead of dropping silently
(Hoshe).
- voxel.rs: add the 3 WaterBody zones to all_families_no_panic_at_extreme_positions +
fix the "7 families" comment (Hoshe).
- climate_constants.toml: bold warning that [moisture_gradient] is not loaded until
T-1032 — tune ClimateConstants::default() (Tyre).
- Q-123: record the per-zone "water renders wet" threshold + the land-relative
vegetation-present denominator as calibration items (Tyre + the open 7th criterion).
- T-1083 ticket: note the sampling-fix attribution (landed in the T-1082 commit).
Believability golden regenerated (sampler + drainage fixes moved the metrics).
clippy --all-targets -D warnings clean; 1580 lib tests + harness pass.

moisture_q was a single body constant (derive_moisture_q took only &BodyParams →
80 for every one of 2048 ocean-world districts), so vegetation/terrain/ecotones
were uniform — "nothing to fuzz" (the T-1080 believability bug).
- district_profile.rs: derive_moisture_q is now a body ceiling (hydrosphere+atmosphere)
× per-district gradient — latitude (equator wet → pole dry), elevation (orographic/
rain-shadow), continentality (100 − ocean_fraction_q). Integer/D-010, no new plumbing
(elev_q/ocean_fraction_q/latitude_deg already reach build_district_profile). Mirrors
D-240's temperature model. Coefficients in ClimateConstants + climate_constants.toml
[moisture_gradient] (provisional; Q-123 calibrates). Tuned so a wet body stays mostly
green with drier patches and a frozen body clamps mostly barren. + gradient unit test.
- region_profile.rs: region-tier moisture gets the region-latitude gradient (elevation/
continentality are district-scale).
- Propagates to precipitation_class / vegetation_class / morphology_zone (all read
moisture_q). D-239 §2 amended. Believability golden regenerated.
Probe (Arbour @ yolo): moisture_q distinct 1 → 49 (spread 0 → 48); 5/7 → 6/7 criteria.
Edict (frozen): moisture 0..20 ×21 — gradient within its low ceiling. Remaining fail
(vegetation-present) is the metric dividing by all-sampled incl. water on a 2/3-ocean
world — a Q-123 calibration concern, not a climate defect.
clippy --all-targets -D warnings clean; 1580 lib tests + harnesses pass.

The water zones (OpenOcean/Lake/TidalFlat) fell through to the dry-land AlluvialPlain
fallback, so the sea rendered as dry forested land (the D-245 believability bug).
- voxel.rs: new MorphologyFamily::WaterBody (9th family) + generate_water_body,
dispatched from zone_to_family. Deep open water with a Shallow shoal band on the
district-anchored coast line (wider for shallower bodies); TidalFlat all-Shallow.
Seabed Rock (steep) / Sand (gentle) / Wetland (tidal mud); Vegetation::Barren;
water surface elevation_m = 0; seasonal Ice via derive_cover (frozen seas). Wetland
stays AlluvialPlain (it is land — a marsh, not open water). Integer/D-010. + 4 tests.
- believability.rs: fix a sampling bias in the T-1083 enforcer found while verifying
this — the metrics sampled the first 64 districts in BTreeMap order (a spatial corner,
e.g. all-ocean), which reported a forested world as "0 vegetated". Now a deterministic
seeded spread across the body (matches D-245's "randomly-sampled locations").
- D-239 amended (§5 8→9 families; §6 refined — the 3 water zones now dispatch to
WaterBody). Believability golden regenerated.
Probe (Arbour @ yolo): water-renders-wet 4/64 FAIL → 42/44 PASS; terrain-material
variety 1 → 4 PASS; 3/7 → 5/7 criteria. (Remaining fails — moisture gradient,
vegetation-present — are T-1080.)
clippy --all-targets -D warnings clean; 1579 lib tests + the harness pass.

Promote the throwaway aliveness probe into a committed, repeatable believability
protocol — the instrument that found T-1080/T-1081/T-1082.
- atlas/believability.rs (new): BelievabilityReport (serde) + analyze() computing
CONTRAST (per-field min/max/distinct for moisture/elev/slope/ocean over all
districts; distinct morphology zones / vegetation classes / terrain materials)
and COHERENCE (water-renders-wet, drainage-monotonic, vegetation-present) — never
marginal per-tile counts (the lesson: that called a broken uniform world ALIVE).
evaluate_criteria() = advisory D-245 checks; cascade_for_body()/seed_to_u64()
loader shared by the bin and the harness. Unit tests prove the metric tells a
uniform world (fails) from a varied one (passes) + determinism.
- bin/aliveness_probe.rs: refactored to a thin CLI over the module — prints the
body-level report + advisory D-245 criteria, drops the naive per-tile verdict.
- tests/believability_harness.rs (+ golden): runs the real cascade for Arbour
(temperate/ocean) + Edict (frozen/ice), asserts determinism, golden-snapshots
the reports (regression — updates when T-1080/T-1082 land), advisory criteria
with BELIEVABILITY_STRICT=1 to fail on unmet D-245 criteria. Skips if committed
data absent. x86_64 golden (cascade has f32 warp paths).
Baseline @ believability-v1: Arbour 3/7, Edict 3/7 criteria pass — moisture
gradient, water-renders-wet, drainage all FAIL (T-1080/T-1082); Edict vegetation
0/64 (blank tundra — the frozen 'reads dead' case D-245 targets).
PNG layer maps (ticket item 3) deferred — explicitly optional; the contrast +
coherence metrics are the core enforcer.
clippy --all-targets -D warnings clean; 1575 lib tests + the harness pass.
