Supply Dependency

Golestan is a spur, which shapes everything about it. Two gates — one toward Athabasca, one toward Enugu — but no through traffic worth the name: nobody routes through Golestan as a waypoint when the corridor offers shorter ways between its neighbours. What passes through the gate is either coming here or came from here. The economy is correspondingly local: mixed cereal and legume agriculture on the primary, light manufacturing that supplies its own maintenance, and a fishing industry on the second-largest settlement body that has been running on the same cooperative structure for three hundred years.

The Farahani family — Persian-heritage founders who arrived on a wave_2 land-survey contract and simply stayed when the survey was complete — remain the system's largest agricultural landholders. The family name appears on four of the seven primary agricultural regions and two of the manufacturing cooperatives. This is not unusual for a spur-end system with four centuries of continuous settlement and no demographic disruption. The land was surveyed by the Farahanis, allocated by the Farahanis, and has passed to Farahani descendants in every generation since. The Assembly's inheritance and land-use frameworks nominally apply. No one has ever tested them here.

Faction Notes

Golestan has no significant external faction presence. Gate Corporation maintains a minimal rotating-contract crew at the horizon station. The Assembly's nearest outpost is at Athabasca, one hop inward. No Syndic has a major operation here. The local governance is a council of agricultural cooperative representatives, which functions as it has functioned for two centuries: slowly, consensually, and with the Farahani family's vote bloc carrying more weight than any formal structure would officially acknowledge.

The Persian-heritage founding culture — an old landed sensibility, patient and proprietary, deeply skeptical of external institutional claims on what a family has held and worked for four centuries — makes Golestan more comfortable with its effective isolation than most Assembly administrators would prefer. The system is not hostile to outside contact. It simply does not require it.

Silence Topic

What Golestan does not discuss with outsiders is the content of the original land-survey contract under which the founding party arrived. The contract's public record establishes that the survey was commissioned, completed, and filed. It does not establish what terms governed the surveyors' rights to claim residency after filing, or what the contracting party received in exchange. The contracting party — a wave_2 colonial development firm that no longer exists as a legal entity — apparently received something, because the contract was filed as fulfilled. What that was, and whether its terms created any ongoing obligations on the Farahani family's landholdings, has not been examined by anyone with the authority to do so.

Narrative Hook

The founding survey contract is filed, fulfilled, and closed — but the development firm that commissioned it transferred its archived assets to a successor entity three mergers ago, and someone in that chain has been paying annual archival access fees on Golestan's founding records for the past forty years.

Calibration Note

wave_2 spur_end at hop_distance: 6 is a common profile for systems settled by specific contract or expedition rather than organic corridor migration. Golestan's Persian-heritage exception is an Early Arrival archetype: the founding party followed a specific economic opportunity (survey contract) rather than cultural affinity with the Commonwealth corridor. Four centuries of isolation on a spur have made the Persian-heritage founding more persistent than it might otherwise be — there was no subsequent demographic wave to dilute it.
