jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 db241b88bd refactor(schema): rename biome_summary to planet_class (D-188)
"Biome" describes per-zone vegetation classification (Whittaker table).
"Planet class" describes overall planetary character. The conflation
caused the planet generator to misclassify ~270 bodies as barren.

Scope: systems.db column, schema SQL, Rust atlas code, wiki table
headers (Biome → Class), atlas proposal JSONs, all docs/decisions,
tooling scripts. Also normalizes atmosphere vocabulary (breathable →
standard) and expands planet class mapping to all 26 wiki values.
Unknown classes default to temperate for modder safety.

Fluchtburg means "refuge castle" in German — a fortified place of last resort, a structure built not for comfort but for survival when retreat has run out of options. The name was chosen by the founding generation with full awareness of its meaning, and the community has spent two hundred years deciding whether the name still fits.

The founding is not disputed because there is nothing to dispute: the records are clear, the descendants know them, and the Assembly has never acknowledged them officially, which means there is no official version to contradict. Two hundred years ago, a series of Assembly enforcement operations in the outer corridors produced a failed military action — details classified, incident never publicly named — in which crew members of several vessels refused orders, declined to participate in whatever had been ordered, and instead continued deeper into the frontier rather than return to face the consequences of their refusal. Some accounts say the orders involved civilian populations. Some accounts say the orders involved something classified that the crew members could not unsee. Some accounts say it was simpler than that — that the orders were wrong in a way that the crew could not articulate formally but could not follow. None of these accounts can be verified from outside the community. The community does not offer clarification.

What is certain is that the founders arrived at GJ 428A approximately two hundred years ago, settled without authorization, and have remained. The Assembly has no record of authorizing the settlement. Fluchtburg has no Assembly registration. Technically the settlement is unauthorized. Practically, nobody with enforcement authority has any reason to travel to hop 11 to regularize a two-hundred-year-old community of farmers and craftspeople who are not bothering anyone.

The community's governance is built around the founding mythology of refusal. They have a detailed oral tradition about what was refused and why, and a codified set of principles — the Founding Refusals, formally written down about a hundred years after settlement — about the limits of legitimate institutional authority. The Founding Refusals are not separatist doctrine in the organized political sense; they are the community's internally-maintained account of what authority can and cannot ask of a person. The Commission's absence is considered correct. The Assembly's non-recognition is considered irrelevant. The community governs itself by the principles its founders articulated in the act of refusing to continue.

Two hundred years of self-governance by people who defined themselves by disobedience has produced a community that is, paradoxically, quite orderly. The founding act was specific and justified by specific principles. The descendants have spent two centuries working out what those principles imply about daily governance. The result is a community with a strong internal rule structure and a consistent, principled refusal of external authority that is not experienced internally as anarchism but as fidelity to the founding moment.

What makes Fluchtburg unusual rather than merely isolated is the corridor it sits on. Connected to the respected scholar-exile community of Fernlicht at hop 12 on one side and to the empty but attractive GJ 69 on the other, Fluchtburg occupies a position in the deep frontier's social geography that gives it quiet influence. Communities further out in the corridor know it. Communities further in have heard of it. The story of the founding has a life of its own in the deep frontier oral tradition — the crew who refused and kept going is a resonant myth whether the specific facts are known or not.

Supply Dependency

Processed materials and manufacturing components via the Fernlicht corridor. The community produces food in agricultural surplus and provides logistics and hospitality services to transit vessels. The dependency is on technical and industrial inputs that the community cannot manufacture locally at the required quality or scale.

Faction Notes

No Assembly registration, no Commission presence, no Syndic operations. The community maintains its unauthorized status as a matter of principle. Separatist sympathies are near-universal but not organized through any formal separatist movement — the community's self-governance predates most current separatist organizational structures and does not require them. The Guardians of Autonomy have attempted on several occasions to establish a formal relationship; the community has politely declined institutional affiliation while maintaining informal communication.

Silence Topic

The specific nature of the orders that were refused at the original enforcement action. The descendants know what their founding generation recorded; the records are internal property. Sharing the specific content with outsiders is considered a breach of something that cannot quite be named — it is not that the content is shameful, but that the specificity is the community's, and has been since the day the founders wrote it down.

Narrative Hook

Two hundred years of principled unauthorized existence — a community that defines itself by a refusal nobody in official records acknowledges ever being made.
