"Biome" describes per-zone vegetation classification (Whittaker table). "Planet class" describes overall planetary character. The conflation caused the planet generator to misclassify ~270 bodies as barren. Scope: systems.db column, schema SQL, Rust atlas code, wiki table headers (Biome → Class), atlas proposal JSONs, all docs/decisions, tooling scripts. Also normalizes atmosphere vocabulary (breathable → standard) and expands planet class mapping to all 26 wiki values. Unknown classes default to temperate for modder safety. GJ 3403 has been surveyed, found adequate, and left alone.
The K-type primary is a better star than most at this depth — warmer than an M-dwarf, more stable, producing something closer to what the human body expects from a sky. The primary world meets settlement criteria: breathable atmosphere, adequate warmth, reasonable water distribution, no significant geological instability. Survey assessments across multiple visits have reached the same conclusion each time: habitable world, meets minimum parameters, no compelling argument for or against.
"No compelling argument for or against" is how a world remains empty for generations. The positive case for settling GJ 3403 — it is adequate — runs directly into the negative case for not settling GJ 3403 at hop ten: it is only adequate. The inner-Reach settlement wave funded frontier development when the economics were favorable, and GJ 3403's economics were never favorable enough to compete with better opportunities at closer distances. The corridor needed a node here. Nobody needed a home here. The distinction is the whole story.
The system connects to Neugrund at GJ 675 on one side — the multicultural experiment, the self-conscious attempt to build something deliberately mixed — and GJ 656 in the other direction. The corridor exists. The horizon station processes transit. The habitable world turns below, meeting its parameters.
