jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 db241b88bd refactor(schema): rename biome_summary to planet_class (D-188)
"Biome" describes per-zone vegetation classification (Whittaker table).
"Planet class" describes overall planetary character. The conflation
caused the planet generator to misclassify ~270 bodies as barren.

Scope: systems.db column, schema SQL, Rust atlas code, wiki table
headers (Biome → Class), atlas proposal JSONs, all docs/decisions,
tooling scripts. Also normalizes atmosphere vocabulary (breathable →
standard) and expands planet class mapping to all 26 wiki values.
Unknown classes default to temperate for modder safety.

Weitblick means "far sight" — the view from a high place, the capacity to see a long distance. Two hundred years ago, German-heritage settlers chose this name for a system that sits deeper in the frontier than most communities that were founded in the same era, and they chose it with the awareness that from here, looking back toward the Reach, the distance is exceptional. From this far out, you can see a lot. The question is whether anyone is looking back at you.

The G-type primary is a warm yellow star — brighter and more hospitable than the dim M-dwarfs typical of the deep frontier. The light here feels close to Earth-standard, which gave the founding settlers a practical advantage and an emotional one. Two centuries of local astronomical observation have produced some of the most complete stellar records for any deep_frontier system.

As a through_route connecting GJ 309 and GJ 598, Weitblick handles genuine transit traffic — not heavy, but regular. Vessels moving between the two connecting systems pass through. The community developed a modest service economy around that traffic: refueling, maintenance, crew accommodation for vessels unwilling to attempt the long haul without a stop. The transit function and the settlement have coexisted without either dominating the other, which is an arrangement that suits the local character.

Supply Dependency

Weitblick imports manufactured components and medical hardware through its corridor connections. Its own production is agricultural — sufficient for local consumption, with modest surplus available to transit vessels. The stellar activity records represent an unofficial export: research institutions in the inner Reach have been known to pay for access to the archive.

Faction Notes

A community council handles civic governance. The Commission post is staffed on a rotating basis, with longer tours than inner-Reach postings because the transit time to reach this system makes short assignments impractical. Commission personnel stationed at Weitblick tend to develop genuine local ties, which is either a benefit or a conflict-of-interest depending on who is evaluating them.

Silence Topic

The stellar activity archive. The most recent decade of records contains a sequence of anomalous readings that the local astronomical society has not published and that does not appear in the Commission reports. The nature of the anomaly is known to approximately four people.

Narrative Hook

A research vessel operating under academic credentials arrived eight months ago to access the stellar archive, spent three weeks on-site, departed without filing a summary report as their access agreement required, and has not responded to the follow-up transmissions the community council has sent since.

Calibration Note

Wave_4 through_route at hop 7 with stellar variability documentation is consistent with deep_frontier settlement patterns. The name "Weitblick" reflects genuine frontier consciousness — a community that understood its isolation and chose to frame it as perspective rather than deprivation.
