Koryo Standard

Type: Corporation — Consumer Goods Manufacturer Also Known As: Koryo, KS Products Status: Canonical Scope: East reach corridor primary; limited inward distribution secondary Headquarters: Jeonnam (GJ 3728B) — 2-aperture system, 5 hops from Gateway Classification: Sub-Syndic consumer goods enterprise; everyday commodity lines

Overview

Koryo Standard is what sustains east reach households between the things they buy for taste or status. Cleaning concentrates, packaging materials, basic hygiene products, bulk food containers, workshop consumables — the category of goods that people repurchase automatically and notice only when they are absent. The company has eleven product lines under three brand names and distributes across six east reach systems. No individual product is remarkable. The aggregate market presence is significant.

The company's public identity is low-profile by design. Koryo Standard does not sponsor cultural programming or make arguments about its heritage or the specificity of its ingredients. It competes on price, availability, and the trust that comes from consistent products across many purchase cycles. In the east reach consumer market, this positioning is sustainable: there are enough households buying enough ordinary things that a company good enough at logistics and production can generate comfortable margins without aspiring to premiumness.

Origin

Koryo Standard was founded twenty-nine years ago as a consolidation of three smaller east reach manufacturing operations that had been competing inefficiently across overlapping product categories. The consolidation was backed by a Jeonnam-based investment group that saw an opportunity to rationalize production and distribution across the east reach corridor. The three founding operations became production facilities within a single corporate structure.

The name "Koryo Standard" was selected for its neutrality — it refers to neither the founding operations nor to any specific product identity. The company was intended from the beginning to be an infrastructure company rather than a brand. Whether to build brand recognition on top of the supply infrastructure has been a recurring management debate, never fully resolved in either direction.

Operations

Product lines: Cleaning concentrates under the Jeon Clean brand. Packaging and storage materials under the Standard Pack mark. Household and personal care basics under Koryo Home. Each line covers approximately 30 to 50 SKUs. Production is largely automated; the facilities are not technically complex but require consistent maintenance of equipment that operates at high throughput.

Workforce model: Koryo Standard's production workforce is approximately 60% short-term contracted workers, with the remainder on standard employment agreements. The company describes this in public materials as a "flexible workforce model" that allows production capacity to scale with demand. The practical consequence is that a significant share of the workers in the facilities at any given time are in their first few months of employment, without the accumulated familiarity with specific equipment that longer tenure builds.

Facilities: Three facilities across Jeonnam and two adjacent east reach systems. Facility managers have operational authority within parameters set by central management; safety protocols are standardized at the corporate level.

Distribution: Direct east reach distribution through the company's own logistics network, supplemented by local distributor relationships at systems where the network is thinner.

Political Relationships

East reach labor relations: Koryo Standard's contracted workforce model has drawn periodic attention from east reach labor advocacy bodies, which argue that high contractor ratios are used to avoid benefits obligations and reduce accountability for workplace conditions. The company's response in these forums has been that its contractor arrangements comply fully with Lattice Commission labor standards and that contracted workers are employed through compliant agencies with proper oversight.

Lattice Commission compliance desk: Koryo Standard's regulatory compliance is managed through a dedicated team and has not produced adverse formal findings. The company's internal safety protocols are documented and certified.

What the Settlement Covers

Two years ago, a production line worker at the Jeonnam facility was injured by a rotating component failure on one of the packaging assembly machines. The injury was serious and the incident was reported to the facility's safety authority as required. A settlement was reached with the injured worker, accompanied by a nondisclosure agreement. The settlement amount was material; the NDA terms covered the worker's description of the incident, the facility's internal investigation findings, and "any related operational matters."

The internal investigation identified the specific machine configuration that caused the failure — a guarding arrangement on a rotating drive component that created a pinch hazard under a specific operational condition. The investigation report noted that the same machine configuration was present on two machines at the Jeonnam facility and on one machine at the Hwaseong facility.

Koryo Standard's safety team scheduled a review of all three machines. The review was conducted at the Jeonnam facility, where the two affected machines had their guarding configuration modified. The Hwaseong facility was notified of the review requirement. A month later, facility records show the notification was logged. Whether the Hwaseong machine's guarding was modified is not confirmed in any record that safety team headquarters can access — the Hwaseong facility manager at the time has since moved on, and the successor was not briefed on the review.

The NDA's scope is "incident specifics and related operational matters." The safety team's legal review determined that the ongoing machine configuration question is distinct from the incident itself — correcting it does not require disclosing the incident. This is technically correct and means that notifying workers at the Hwaseong facility that a guarding review had been recommended, without explaining why, was not an NDA violation. The notification that was sent described the review as "routine scheduled maintenance assessment."

Gameplay Relevance

Koryo Standard is ambient east reach commercial texture — present in station commissaries, household inventory, supply chain records. Relevant to investigations involving labor practices, workplace safety, or consumer goods supply chains.

The Hwaseong machine configuration is the investigative thread. The evidence requires connecting three pieces: the original incident report at Jeonnam, the internal investigation's identification of the three affected machines, and the Hwaseong facility's maintenance records — which will show either that the guarding was modified or that it was not. The NDA exists and can be found in the settlement records; its scope language is the key document for understanding what the company was and was not required to disclose. The outgoing Hwaseong facility manager is a potential source. The contracted workers at the Hwaseong facility — who cycle through rapidly and have limited tenure — are a secondary source whose accounts of the current machine configuration are credible precisely because they have no stake in the corporate outcome.
