Calluna Wellness
Type: Corporation — Extended Recovery and Lattice Adjustment Service Status: Canonical Scope: North reach corridor primary; cross-corridor referrals from Somatic Futures and clinical partners Headquarters: Cairn (GJ 845) Currency: Tractus Classification: Sub-Syndic health-adjacent service enterprise; registered under wellness licensing
Overview
There is a gap in the Reach's care infrastructure between standard medical clinics and full re-embodiment services. Standard clinics manage acute conditions. Re-embodiment facilities handle complete substrate transfers. What neither handles well is the long middle: the person whose neural lattice is degrading at a rate that is not yet critical, the Perpetual-class citizen managing post-embodiment adjustment over a period of months, the professional who has pushed their lattice through an intensive period and needs extended physiological recalibration. These people do not need a hospital. They need somewhere to recover, over time, with consistent clinical support.
Calluna Wellness exists for this gap. The facility at Cairn offers extended stay programs — minimum four weeks, typical stay eight to sixteen weeks — built around lattice adjustment monitoring, physiological restoration, and the specific kind of sustained care that requires continuity of staff and environment. It is not a hospital and does not operate under hospital licensing. It is classified as a wellness service and operates under that regulatory framework, which permits a considerable range of clinical-adjacent services without requiring the institutional overhead of medical facility registration.
The distinction matters because it determines cost, access, and oversight. Calluna is more affordable than a clinical facility for extended stays. It is less subject to Lattice Commission clinical monitoring protocols. It accepts clients who cannot access full clinical care on their timelines and budgets. It is also, for this reason, not subject to the reporting requirements that would apply to a licensed medical facility.
Origin
Calluna Wellness was founded fifty years ago by a nurse practitioner named Ailsa Drummond who had spent twenty years working in the north reach's network of small clinical facilities and had developed a clear picture of the patient population that the clinical system was failing. Not failing through malice or incompetence — failing because the structure of clinical care, organized around acute treatment and discharge, had no mechanism for patients who needed sustained recovery support over timescales measured in months.
Drummond's original model was straightforward: a long-stay facility that provided monitoring, support, and a stable environment for the recovery process that acute care facilities could not offer. She opened the first Calluna property at Cairn with sixteen beds and a staff of four. The referrals came from the clinical network she had spent twenty years building relationships within. Within two years the facility was at capacity and had a waiting list.
Ailsa Drummond retired twenty years ago. The facility has been expanded twice and is now run by a partnership of three directors, one of whom trained under Drummond. The founding philosophy — structured care for the recovery period that clinical systems cannot support — has not changed. The regulatory environment has changed considerably around it.
Operations
Programs: Three primary program types. The lattice adjustment program is for clients managing post-modification recalibration, lattice degradation, or embodiment transition effects. The physiological restoration program is for clients who need extended support following intensive physical or cognitive periods without a specific clinical diagnosis. The maintenance program is for long-term clients — primarily Perpetual-class individuals managing the cumulative effects of extended lattice use — who return annually or semi-annually for sustained recalibration.
Staffing: Twelve clinical staff, including three with Lattice Commission wellness certification, two physiotherapists, and a rotating roster of visiting practitioners with specific specializations who provide services under contract. The clinical staff are not physicians under Reach medical licensing. They are wellness practitioners operating within the regulatory scope of the facility's classification. The distinction is significant in legal terms and has been consistently managed in the facility's documentation.
Referrals: The majority of Calluna's clients arrive through referrals from clinical facilities that cannot serve their recovery timeline. Somatic Futures has a standing referral relationship with Calluna for clients whose post-embodiment adjustment period exceeds what the clinical facility can accommodate. A smaller referral stream comes from Perpetual-class lifestyle management services that identify clients in need of extended recalibration before the condition becomes clinically acute.
Records: The facility maintains detailed longitudinal records for all clients. These records are held under wellness privacy protocols, which are less stringent than clinical privacy standards and do not carry the same restrictions on secondary use.
Political Relationships
Somatic Futures: The standing referral relationship is Calluna's single largest client-acquisition channel. Somatic Futures refers post-embodiment clients whose adjustment window exceeds their clinical facility's discharge timeline. The referral goes one direction; Somatic Futures does not take Calluna referrals back. Calluna in turn does not directly market against Somatic Futures. The relationship is long-standing, commercially important to both parties, and is the mechanism by which "wellness" clients reach Calluna without clinical case-file transfer.
Lattice Commission (wellness division): Calluna operates under wellness licensing, which is the lighter-touch regulatory tier the Commission maintains for services that are clinical-adjacent but not clinical. The Commission has reviewed Calluna's classification twice in fifty years and has upheld it both times. The reviews are pro-forma; the Commission's wellness division is understaffed and does not have the resources to audit the substantive clinical work done under wellness licensing across the Reach.
Prometheus Labs: The data-licensing relationship is contractual, long-running, and financially material to Calluna. The commercial shape of it is discussed below (What They Don't Talk About); the political shape of it is that Calluna's current partners have not renegotiated the consent framework in thirty years because the relationship's economics do not reward renegotiation.
What They Don't Talk About
Calluna's client records are the facility's secondary revenue stream. The facility has maintained a data licensing arrangement with a Prometheus Labs subsidiary for thirty years — predating the current management — under which anonymized aggregate data from the long-stay client population is provided for research into lattice performance over extended recovery periods. The data is valuable because Calluna's client population is unusual: people managing lattice conditions over months in a consistent monitored environment, providing longitudinal data that clinical settings cannot generate because their discharge timelines are too short.
The clients consent to "wellness research use" of aggregated data in the program agreement. The consent language was written to cover exactly this kind of licensing. It was not written to make the licensing visible to clients who did not read carefully, and the partnership that now runs Calluna considers the consent framework sufficient without considering whether it is informative. Prometheus Labs has been extending and expanding the research agreement at each renewal cycle. The current payment terms are substantially higher than the original arrangement. The partnership has not asked what Prometheus Labs has found in thirty years of data that makes it worth more than it used to be.
Gameplay Relevance
Calluna is relevant for investigations touching lattice health, long-term care access, and the grey zone between clinical and wellness services. A player investigating a subject's health history will find that an extended Calluna stay represents a period of clinical-adjacent monitoring that is not accessible through standard Lattice Commission records — wellness facilities are not subject to the same reporting requirements as licensed medical providers. Access to the records requires either Calluna's cooperation or a legal instrument calibrated to wellness facility standards rather than clinical standards, which most investigators do not automatically seek.
The Prometheus Labs data relationship is the deeper thread. Thirty years of aggregate Calluna data in a Prometheus Labs subsidiary represents significant accumulated research into lattice degradation, adjustment patterns, and long-term performance in the Perpetual-class population. An investigator who establishes what the subsidiary has been doing with that data — and why the payments have been increasing — is investigating Prometheus Labs' research priorities through a side entrance they have not secured as carefully as their primary operations.
