The Settled Reach — Game Wiki
Project: The Settled Reach (top-down immersive sim) Setting: Original science fiction IP v0.1 Vertical Slice: Sova Transit District, Van Maanen's Star Purpose: Canonical reference for all content, mechanics, and worldbuilding
How to Use This Wiki
This wiki serves three audiences:
- Content creators (writers, designers): Use this as source material for dialogue, monologue, NPC profiles, and environmental text. All entries marked
canonicalare setting truth. - System implementers (engineers): Reference this for mechanical integration points — knowledge graph flags, perception modes, faction mechanics.
- The team (everyone): Cross-reference between decisions (
decisions/*.md) and implementation. The wiki is WHERE, decisions are WHY.
Cross-reference format: Wiki entries link to decision documents where relevant. Example: Neural lattice tiers implement D-017 (perception modes as character build).
Status levels: canonical (confirmed), draft (in review), proposed (under consideration). Only use canonical entries as truth. See GOVERNANCE.md for full contribution rules.

Quick Reference
v0.1 Scope: 1 star system, 1 station, 1 district, 3 social sites, 18 NPCs, 5 triangles, 2 playable characters (smuggler + detective)
Setting mood: Quotidian-with-undertow — comfortable enough to be complacent, tight enough that extra income is tempting
Core contraband: Unlicensed lattice components (aftermarket neural mods bypassing Commission regulation)
Primary tension: Economic pressure creates rational incentive for smuggling; community benefits from grey economy; detective enters a place where non-cooperation is self-interest, not malice
Key design principle: Same world, two lenses — the smuggler's home is the detective's crime scene
Templates & Governance
All wiki entries use YAML frontmatter and follow category-specific templates. See:
- GOVERNANCE.md — Ownership, status lifecycle, contribution rules
- _templates/ — One template per category (11 categories + 3 spatial types)
Categories: star-system, station, district, location, character, faction, technology, cultural-group, contraband, institution, species, lore, concept, triangle
