"Biome" describes per-zone vegetation classification (Whittaker table).
"Planet class" describes overall planetary character. The conflation
caused the planet generator to misclassify ~270 bodies as barren.

Scope: systems.db column, schema SQL, Rust atlas code, wiki table
headers (Biome → Class), atlas proposal JSONs, all docs/decisions,
tooling scripts. Also normalizes atmosphere vocabulary (breathable →
standard) and expands planet class mapping to all 26 wiki values.
Unknown classes default to temperate for modder safety.

Sonnenkap is startlingly bright.

A G0V primary at hop 14 is a physical anomaly of the kind that makes transit crews adjust their viewport filters and then look again. The star is effectively solar-type — yellow-white, high luminosity, the light that human eyes evolved under. After thirteen hops of K-dwarfs and M-dwarfs, the dim amber corridors and the managed circadian schedules, the transition through the GJ 201 junction into Sonnenkap's light produces a physiological response that multiple transit logs have noted without being able to fully articulate. "It feels like morning," one crew record states. The record does not explain further. It does not need to.

The habitable world is a terrestrial planet in the mid habitable zone with a thick nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere, active hydrological cycle, extensive surface water, and a biosphere of native single-celled organisms that the wave_4 survey team described as "robust but non-competitive with introduced terrestrial ecology." In plain terms: the world is warm, wet, alive in its own modest way, and receptive to human agriculture without the compromises that K-dwarf or M-dwarf worlds demand. It is, by any honest assessment, one of the best pieces of real estate in the deep frontier.

The wave_4 settlers who arrived approximately 160 years ago were a German-heritage engineering cooperative from the west_reach's inner corridor — a group whose founding documents describe themselves as "Sonnenkap Siedlungsgenossenschaft," the Sonnenkap Settlement Cooperative. They named the system before they arrived, based on the survey data, which tells you something about both their confidence and their precision: Sonnenkap, "sun cap" or "sun cape," for a G0V star that sits like a bright headland at the end of a long dim corridor. The name is geographical in the navigational sense. They saw the star chart and named what they saw.

The cooperative brought west_reach industrial discipline to a world that rewarded agricultural effort. The result, after 160 years, is a community of approximately three thousand people whose settlement has the particular character of a place built by engineers who became farmers: the infrastructure is over-specified, the irrigation systems are elegant, the buildings are structurally conservative, and the agricultural output per hectare is among the highest of any non-Syndic operation in the deep frontier. The community does not advertise this. They do not need to. The corridor traders who visit from GJ 532 and points beyond carry the information outward in the form of trade goods that are notably well-made and food stores that are notably fresh for their distance from the breadbasket worlds.

The spur-end topology connects Sonnenkap to the GJ 201 junction and to GJ 532. The community's relationship with GJ 532 and the deeper corridor is its primary external connection — a supply-and-trade relationship that has made Sonnenkap the nearest source of quality agricultural goods for the systems further along the chain toward Abzu.


Supply Dependency

Fabrication materials and specialized technical components from the mid-Reach via the GJ 201 corridor. The community's engineering heritage means local manufacturing capability is higher than typical for this hop distance — they fabricate most of their own agricultural and construction equipment. The critical dependency is in precision electronics and medical technology, which cannot be manufactured locally at the required quality. Supply intervals average six to ten months, shorter than most deep frontier systems, because Sonnenkap's agricultural exports create a trade relationship that incentivizes regular corridor traffic.


Faction Notes

Governance by cooperative charter with an elected management board. The founding charter is explicitly modeled on west_reach cooperative structures and includes provisions for labor representation, capital allocation by community vote, and external trade regulation by board approval. The community's west_reach heritage makes them institutionally skeptical of distant authority — they file Assembly paperwork without enthusiasm and have declined two Commission invitations to establish a permanent relay station, on the grounds that the community does not require the services a relay station implies and does not want the institutional presence it entails.


Silence Topic

What happened to the Sonnenkap Siedlungsgenossenschaft's west_reach charter. The cooperative's founding documents reference a prior registration in the west_reach corridor — a registration that was active when the founding expedition departed and is no longer active in west_reach records. The cooperative does not discuss the circumstances under which the original charter lapsed. Whether the departure was voluntary and the charter was allowed to expire, or whether the charter was revoked and the departure followed, is a question the community's internal records could answer but that no outsider has been given access to determine. The engineering cooperative arrived at hop 14 with equipment, capital, and expertise that imply a well-funded departure. Unfunded departures do not bring precision irrigation machinery.

Narrative Hook

A G0V star at hop 14 — bright, warm, nearly solar — hosting an engineering cooperative that has turned one of the deep frontier's best worlds into a quiet agricultural success that nobody in the inner Reach has noticed, and whose departure from the west_reach was better-funded than an ordinary frontier expedition accounts for.


Calibration Note

The G0V spectral type at this hop distance is unusual and explains both the system's settlement quality and its founding demographics: a wave_4 west_reach cooperative with enough capital and motivation to reach hop 14 was specifically drawn by survey data showing a solar-type star, which represents a significant quality premium over the K-dwarf and M-dwarf systems that dominate this region of the frontier.
