GJ 92 is an empty corridor link. The star is a K-type primary — cooler and dimmer than Sol, orange-hued, with a habitable zone that surveys indicate could support settlement. The surveys were done. The assessments were positive. Settlement never came.
The most plausible explanation is timing. The system sits at hop 7 on a corridor whose active settlement push happened during the Trade Expansion era, and by the time its outer systems were being mapped, the early Secession pressures were already disrupting outward migration. The settlers who might have come to GJ 92 went elsewhere or stopped moving altogether. The gate infrastructure was completed anyway — the apertures were already in fabrication — and GJ 92 became a transit node that no one needed as a home.
It has been one for over two centuries. Vessels pass through on their way between Nascente and GJ 138 beyond. An automated relay station operates near the inner aperture, maintaining navigation data and transit logs. There is no crew, no dock, no supply station. The in-system approach requires vessels to carry everything they need.
The K-type star hangs at the center of an empty habitable zone, warming a planet that surveys described as temperate, stable, and biologically active. Something grows there. Nobody has looked closely in a long time.
Supply Dependency
None. No population, no resource extraction. The transit corridor function is passive.
Faction Notes
No faction presence. The automated relay is Commission-registered. Its maintenance cycle has nominally been assigned to Nascente's Commission post, which is four hundred years old and fully staffed — and which has nonetheless allowed the relay's last formal inspection to slip to over a decade ago.
Silence Topic
Not applicable — no population to keep silence. However, Nascente's community treats questions about what is in GJ 92 with an evasiveness that has no obvious cause.
Narrative Hook
The relay station at GJ 92 has been broadcasting a navigation warning about a hazard in the inner system for approximately sixty years. The hazard is logged as "debris field, origin uncertain." No one has catalogued what it actually is.
Calibration Note
Unsettled G-type at hop 7 with plausible habitation potential and two centuries of unused gate infrastructure is a setting anomaly worth noting — systems like this rarely stay empty without a reason.
