THE DRIFTER'S GUIDE TO THE REACH — ERRAI
ERRAI is the through-route between the deep frontier's mineral surveys and Orchard's End — a K1IV subgiant that is slightly more evolved than its spectral neighbors, slightly warmer, and slightly more orange in a corridor that is already quite orange.
The Transit Point
Hop 13, through_route, wave-4 settlement. GJ 616 on the inner side with its well-surveyed but unfunded mineral deposits. Orchard's End on the outer side with its unusual quality of conditions and Marta Orchard's 180-year-old cooperative charter. Errai between them.
The K1IV classification puts Errai's primary at an evolutionary stage between the main sequence and the subgiant phase — the star has expanded slightly, brightened slightly, and warmed the system's habitable zone relative to a standard K-dwarf. The practical effect is that the conditions here are more comfortable than the spectral type alone suggests, which contributed to the wave-4 settlement decision.
What exists here is a working community in the corridor that connects inner systems to Orchard's End. The agricultural goods that Orchard's End produces in surplus move inward through Errai, supplemented by what Errai's own fields contribute. The technical and medical supplies that the spur end needs move outward through the same route. The community's primary economic function is being the midpoint in this relationship — providing transit services, warehousing, and the kind of corridor waypoint infrastructure that makes the Orchard's End spur economically viable rather than merely possible.
Practical Information
Errai is thirteen hops from Gateway with two apertures connecting to GJ 616 and Orchard's End. Transit services and basic reprovisioning are available. The community's size and function keep it in stable relationship with both corridor neighbors without either dominating the other.
