GJ 902 is empty. The gate is active, the horizon station runs its self-maintenance cycles, and the system's physical profile is, by any standard assessment, better than half the settled dead-ends in the south_reach corridor. Nobody lives here.
The K3V primary is stable and warm — amber light, reliable output, the kind of star that agricultural settlements select for when they have options. There are two notable bodies. The first is a rocky planet in the inner habitable zone: thin atmosphere, low gravity, marginally survivable with engineered closed environments but not inviting. The second is substantially better. A moon orbiting the system's mid-range gas giant, with an iron core that produces a magnetic field strong enough to deflect the stellar wind without additional engineering. The moon's surface gravity, derived from its dense interior, sits at approximately 0.82 standard — comfortable for long-term habitation. The wave_3 survey team that assessed GJ 902 three hundred years ago rated the moon as viable for settlement. The assessment was filed, cataloged, and has been sitting in the registry ever since. No charter application followed. The survey team moved on to other assignments. The wave_3 expansion pushed into systems with better topology — through-routes, junctions, anything with more than one gate — and a dead-end at hop 7 off a corridor that was itself still developing did not generate the settlement pressure required to turn a favorable survey into a founding expedition.
The wave_4 expansion passed it by for the same reason. Wave_5 has concentrated on systems closer to established infrastructure. Three hundred years of favorable survey data, and the moon sits in the same condition the survey team found it in: habitable, unclaimed, waiting.
The single aperture connects to GJ 451A. Transit crews passing through GJ 451A are aware the dead-end exists. The horizon station's automated beacon identifies the system and its survey status. Occasionally a ship transits through to check the station's maintenance status or to use the system as a quiet anchorage. These visits are brief and leave no permanent mark.

None. The system has no population and no economic activity. The horizon station's self-maintenance systems draw power from the stellar environment and have been operating without external intervention since installation.
Faction Notes
No governance structure. No Commission post. The system appears in the Commission's south_reach registry as a surveyed, unsettled dead-end with a standing wave_3 habitability assessment. The registry entry has not been updated since the original survey filing. No faction, institution, or commercial entity has filed a claim, a charter application, or a development inquiry in the system's three-century registry history.
Silence Topic
The moon is good real estate. Not marginal, not "viable with significant investment" — genuinely good. Iron core magnetic shielding, workable gravity, favorable soil chemistry, a stable K3V star providing the light spectrum that adapted agriculture requires. The survey data has been publicly available for three hundred years. The question of why no one has claimed it has a simple answer — topology, timing, the ordinary friction of settlement economics — but the simplicity of the answer does not fully account for the duration of the vacancy. Three centuries of unclaimed habitable land, at a hop distance where other systems of comparable quality were settled in wave_3 and wave_4, is the kind of gap that eventually attracts attention from parties with more capital than the original survey anticipated.

Calibration Note
The unsettled status at hop 7 with a favorable habitability assessment is explained by dead-end topology and corridor development patterns: wave_3 expansion prioritized systems with through-route or junction positions, and subsequent waves followed the infrastructure those settlements created. A dead-end off GJ 451A, in a part of the south_reach that was itself still developing during wave_3, was passed over by the ordinary mechanics of settlement economics rather than by any physical deficiency. The K3V stellar profile and the moon's iron-core detail are consistent with genuinely habitable conditions that have simply never been exploited.
