Supply Dependency
Miryang is an agricultural exporter — one of the corridor's few systems at this hop distance that runs a consistent food surplus. The M4.5 primary provides stable low-energy irradiation suited to the enclosed horticultural complexes that dominate the habitable body's productive surface, and the founding community invested in agricultural infrastructure as a deliberate long-term strategy rather than incidental development. The surplus flows coreward through Bridgepoint (GJ 53A) toward the inner reach and Gateway-adjacent systems, which represents an unusual reverse-dependency for a hop-5 system: Miryang ships food inward rather than receiving it.
The food export economy creates a specific governance dynamic: agricultural cooperatives control the most economically significant assets, which means cooperative governance structures are entrenched in a way that would be difficult to displace even if anyone were trying. The system imports finished manufactured goods and equipment; it does not produce either. Its economic health is directly tied to corridor food pricing, which fluctuates with wave conditions throughout the east reach.
Faction Notes
The founding community established a syndicate council model that remains the governance structure today — a network of agricultural cooperative representatives who make system-wide decisions by assembly vote, with executive functions delegated to a rotating administrative board. Wave_3 Korean-heritage settlers brought this institutional form from cooperative traditions that predated the Reach, adapted it to the specific conditions of enclosed-habitat agriculture, and produced something that has proven structurally durable across four centuries.
The Syndic agricultural network from the south_reach has no formal presence here, but Miryang's cooperative structure has occasional trade relationships with south_reach agricultural systems when corridor pricing creates arbitrage opportunities. These relationships are transactional and do not imply political alignment.
The Lattice Commission and Assembly presence are appropriate for a hop-5 through-route agricultural system — functional but not prominent. No major corporate extraction presence; the cooperative structure has historically negotiated contract terms that prevent any single commercial operator from establishing a dominant position in the food export market.
Silence Topic
What the syndicate council does not discuss with external parties: the water reclamation dispute.
Miryang's agricultural output depends entirely on closed-cycle water reclamation systems that have been managed collectively since the founding period. Two of the larger cooperative complexes on the eastern habitat zone have been running reclamation infrastructure that draws from the shared aquifer reserve at rates the central water authority's monitoring board considers unsustainable. The monitoring board has filed internal notices. The cooperative representatives from the eastern complexes sit on the syndicate council and have been tabling the issue in assembly proceedings for three growing seasons. The other cooperatives have begun to notice.
Narrative Hook
Miryang's collective water authority has filed internal sustainability notices against two cooperative complexes whose representatives sit on the governing council, and the assembly proceedings that should resolve the dispute have been stalled for three growing seasons running.
Calibration Note
wave_3 at hop 5 as a through_route is standard mid-corridor settlement. Korean-heritage founding community is consistent with the east_reach corridor — Korean cooperative agricultural traditions are well-documented in the corridor's wave_3 expansion, and the syndicate-council governance reflects that heritage's institutional forms. The M4.5 primary is consistent with enclosed-habitat agriculture rather than open-surface cultivation; M-dwarf agricultural systems in the east_reach have consistently developed horticultural rather than field-crop economies, and Miryang's enclosed approach allows it to maintain stable yields despite the star's low-luminosity profile.
