THE DRIFTER'S GUIDE TO THE REACH — MIRYANG
MIRYANG is a hop-5 system that ships food inward rather than receiving it, which inverts the standard corridor dependency model and would be considered a remarkable achievement if the enclosed horticultural complexes that make it possible were not currently engaged in a resource dispute that the governing council has been declining to resolve for three growing seasons.
The Agricultural Surplus
Wave_3 Korean-heritage settlers invested in agricultural infrastructure deliberately — not incidentally, not as a fallback from a failed industrial ambition, but as a long-term strategy they committed to before the colony was a year old. The enclosed horticultural complexes that dominate the habitable body's productive surface were designed for the M4.5 primary's low-energy irradiation profile, which suits stable enclosed cultivation and rules out open-surface farming. Four centuries later, Miryang ships food to the inner reach through Bridgepoint while most corridor systems at this hop distance are importing it. The cooperative governance structure is entrenched in exactly the way that ownership of the most economically significant assets produces: not by force, but by the simple arithmetic of who controls what.
The Assembly and Commission presences are functional and unobtrusive. No major corporate extraction presence — the cooperative negotiated contract terms from the beginning that prevent any single commercial operator from establishing dominance in the food export market. This is the kind of foresight that seems obvious in retrospect and rarely happens in practice.
The Water Account
Miryang's agricultural output depends entirely on closed-cycle water reclamation systems that have been managed collectively since the founding period. Two of the larger cooperative complexes on the eastern habitat zone have been drawing from the shared aquifer reserve at rates the central water authority's monitoring board considers unsustainable. The monitoring board has filed internal notices. The eastern complexes' representatives sit on the syndicate council. They have been tabling the issue in assembly proceedings for three growing seasons.
The other cooperatives have begun to notice. The eastern habitat zone cooperatives continue to draw at unsustainable rates. The council assembly continues to table the issue. The water authority continues to file internal notices that go to the council that is tabling the issue. The aquifer reserve continues to decline.
Miryang's food export reputation rests on the assumption that its production capacity is stable and renewable. The monitoring board's assessment of what the eastern complexes are doing to the shared aquifer reserve is not a public document.
Practical Information
Miryang is five hops from Gateway with two gate apertures connecting to Yeongwol and Bridgepoint. The cooperative structures are genuine and functional for most decisions. The food is excellent.
