The name means wild waters, and the waters here earn it. The primary inhabited world at GJ 688 is distinguished by hydrological energy: large oceans fed by substantial polar ice reserves and shaped by a tidal regime that produces strong seasonal surge patterns, deep river systems that cut through varied terrain, and a coastal environment of the kind that Canarian fishermen — the founding heritage of this system — had been managing for centuries before the Reach existed.
