Population

Lindström Station was a corporate decision before it was a community. Wave 4 settlement in this spur off Wolf 359 came not from individual frontier ambition or institutional research interest but from a mineral survey conducted by Lindström Extractives, a mid-reach company whose executive director, Margareta Lindström, authorized the permanent transit post after the initial survey returned promising deep-strata readings. The station bears her name. So does the company. Two centuries later, the company has been restructured, acquired, and restructured again; the name remains on both.

The star is a K7V — on the cooler end of the K-type sequence, 25.1 light-years from the Gateway. It was not a star anyone had studied with particular care before the survey. It had a number. Now it has a name. The planet that attracted Lindström Extractives is a rocky body in the inner zone, not habitable without significant life support but rich in the heavy-element deposits that the company's survey predicted. Extraction operations began within a decade of the station's founding and have run continuously since.

Spur_end topology means that Lindström Station connects to the reach only through Wolf 359. GJ 216B lies at the other aperture — a stub system that has not been commercially developed, used primarily for survey activity and occasional technical transit. The spur's isolation is mitigated by its proximity to Wolf 359's hub, which means supply chains are short and transit times are predictable. What it cannot do is route traffic around Wolf 359. When Wolf 359's schedule is disrupted, Lindström Station feels it immediately.

The community that formed around the extraction operation is Swedish in its founder heritage — Lindström Extractives recruited heavily from Scandinavian-heritage settlement pools in Wave 4, following a pattern common to corporate-era founding where ethnic and cultural continuity was treated as an operational asset. Two centuries of immigration and intermarriage have diluted the founder character without eliminating it; Swedish is still spoken in some households, Swedish naming conventions persist, and the station's governance structure retains traces of corporate paternalism that was common in Wave 4 founding charters.

Assembly presence is modest but present — a regulatory inspector's office that monitors extraction operations, an administrative registry, and occasional visits from Wolf 359's regional enforcement staff. The community is stable, economically functional, and not politically contentious. Lindström Station is not notable in the reach's politics; it extracts ore, ships it, maintains its station, and expects to continue doing so indefinitely.


Supply Dependency

All consumables and station maintenance goods inbound from Wolf 359 (GJ 406). Refined ore and raw mineral exports flow outward through Wolf 359 to reach broader markets. The extraction operation is vertically integrated; Lindström's corporate successor entities handle both extraction and initial processing on-station.

Faction Notes

The current corporate structure holding extraction rights descends from several rounds of acquisition following Lindström Extractives' original dissolution. The current operator, registered as Lindström Resources (a name deliberately retained for brand continuity), is majority-owned by a holding company based in the inner reach. The station's hereditary workforce has a fraught relationship with remote corporate ownership — labor disputes occur cyclically, settled without lasting resolution, recurring on a roughly twenty-year rhythm. The Assembly inspector's office has a mandate to oversee safety compliance but not labor relations.

Silence Topic

The actual yield figures from the extraction operations are commercially confidential. The holding company reports consolidated figures that do not specify per-system output; the Assembly inspector's office receives safety reports but not production data. What GJ 216B's stub aperture is being used for — whether it is genuinely dormant survey activity or something else — is not discussed publicly on the station.

Narrative Hook

The most recent labor contract negotiation at Lindström Resources ended three years ago with an agreement that both sides signed without enthusiasm; someone on the workforce side has been making discreet contact with an investigative journalist based at Wolf 359, claiming that the safety reports submitted to the Assembly inspector do not reflect conditions underground.

Calibration Note

Wave_4 spur_end at hop 4 is consistent with corporate-era directed settlement. The K7V spectral classification in the DB differs from the F-type header tier — K7V is a cool K-type star, appropriate for extraction-economy settlement where the star's properties are less important than the planetary body's resources. The distance (25.1 ly) is the longest in this batch, which aligns with Wave 4 reaching further out.
