Nova Estrada — "new road" in Portuguese — is barely old enough to have earned the name.

A G0V primary at hop 18 is another geographic gift — solar-type light, warm and bright, the kind of star that makes a deep frontier system feel less like an outpost and more like somewhere people might actually choose to live. The habitable world is good: thick atmosphere, active weather, surface water, a native ecology that is present but not aggressively competitive. Survey data has been on file for centuries. The conditions were known. Nobody came.

The wave_5 settlers who arrived approximately 30 years ago are the answer to the question the system had been asking for 300 years: why not? The answer, it turned out, was infrastructure. The corridor through Claraboia and GJ 726 did not exist as a functional supply route until the wave_4 systems established themselves and began generating corridor traffic. Once Kettenschmied was forging components at GJ 532 and Claraboia was producing ecological data at GJ 904, the route through GJ 726 to GJ 672 became viable — not easy, not cheap, but viable in the sense that a founding cohort with modest capital could reach hop 18 with a reasonable expectation of receiving supply within two years of arrival.

The founding cohort is young, mixed-heritage, and economically precarious. Twenty-eight families from across the south_reach and the deep frontier, pooling resources for a joint expedition to the best unclaimed land they could afford to reach. Their Portuguese naming convention reflects the dominant cultural stream of the south_reach corridor they departed from, not a unified heritage — the community includes Brazilian, Mozambican, Filipino, and Vietnamese family lines alongside the Portuguese-speaking majority. The name Nova Estrada is aspirational: a new road, a new beginning, the kind of naming that wave_5 founders choose when they are young enough to believe that aspiration and reality will converge.

Thirty years of development has produced a settlement that is recognizably early-stage: temporary structures being replaced by permanent ones, agricultural plots in the first and second amendment cycles, an infrastructure deficit that the community is addressing one project at a time with the resources it can accumulate between supply shipments. The population is approximately 200 people, including 47 children born on-world — the first generation whose relationship to the Reach's institutions is purely theoretical, because the institutions have not reached them and show no sign of trying.

The community's position at hop 18 on a through-route gives it one strategic asset: corridor traffic heading deeper passes through, and that traffic occasionally includes people willing to trade labor or goods for provisions. The community has begun to position itself as a waypoint — not yet reliably provisioned enough to be a true resupply stop, but present enough that the corridor's sparse traffic has started to factor GJ 672 into route planning.
