The name means new plantation, and it was chosen with full awareness of what a plantation is and what it carries. The founding families were São Toméan and Portuguese, wave_5 settlers whose families had spent centuries on São Tomé e Príncipe — islands whose entire history was inseparable from the plantation system, from the roças that produced cacao and coffee and sugar under conditions that were formally ended but culturally persistent long after the formal ending. The São Toméan roça was a specific institution: a vast agricultural estate with its own internal logic, its own labor hierarchy, its own relationship to the land that was built through coercion and survived, in modified form, long after coercion ended. The people who named this system Roça Nova were naming it from that history deliberately — not to celebrate what the roça was, but to claim the labor and the knowledge and the relationship to land that the roça also represented, stripped of what it was built on.

The word roça, in São Toméan Portuguese, means plantation in the full complicated sense. Nova means new. The name is a claim about what this place will be: the agricultural knowledge and the relationship to land that the São Toméan tradition carries, on new soil, under a different star, on terms that the people bringing it choose.

The M-type header designation versus the G2V stellar profile is a generation artifact; G2V governs all lore detail. A G2V at 41.5 light-years in the south_reach's wave_5 settlement zone is at the far edge of what the fifth emigration wave reached, which is consistent with the 40-year settlement age. The dead_end at hop 8 connected only to Quilombo (hop 7) places Roça Nova as genuinely terminal — no further expansion from this system is expected, and the community did not arrive expecting it. The São Toméan roça heritage as the founding cultural identity requires the explicit historical framing provided, because the word roça carries weight that would be invisible to a reader without the São Tomé context, and the founding families chose it knowing that weight.
