Crown's Hollow is a functioning constitutional monarchy. This is not a heritage designation, a civic branding exercise, or a cultural preservation framework. There is a sovereign. There is a court. There are hereditary titles, constitutional conventions treated as binding law, and a chancery that has maintained unbroken institutional records for two hundred years. The Reach's political architecture has no category for this, and has spent two centuries declining to create one.

The European monarchy purges happened early — well before the secession, well before the Reach was anything more than a collection of licensed expeditions. The political convulsions that dismantled hereditary sovereignty across Earth's European states were rapid, sequential, and largely irreversible. Most royal houses lost everything. The Windsors had money — enough to buy a system charter outright, which is what they did. Crown's Hollow became, in the decades that followed, a destination for what remained of European royalty: dispossessed houses from across the continent arrived with their titles, their archives, and whatever portable wealth survived the purges. The court that exists today is not exclusively British. It is the accumulated residue of a continental institution that found, in the Reach, the one place where hereditary sovereignty could continue to mean something because no one had yet decided it couldn't.

The settlers who arrived in wave_4 did not call themselves colonists. They called themselves a court in exile, and they named the system for what they had carried with them: the crown, and the hollow inside it. They named the planet Ys. The system name is about loss. The planet name is about what was lost.

The K5 star gives the habitable body a warm, amber light that shifts toward gold in the long afternoons. The planet is temperate — rolling upland country, persistent overcast, seasonal rains that come in from the west. The settlers chose it, or persuaded themselves they had chosen it, because the climate was familiar.
