Population

Marktfeld — "market field" in German — was named for economic function, which is unusual and honest. Two centuries ago, when the system was founded as an outpost off Hansestadt (GJ 832), its purpose was explicitly commercial: a spur terminus that could receive goods from the west_reach's trade corridor and redistribute them toward the community being established at Lichtung beyond. The founders were traders first and settlers second, and they did not pretend otherwise.

The star is an M4 dwarf, dim and rust-red, producing the low-light environment common to this part of the corridor. What Marktfeld lacks in stellar brightness it compensates with geography — the habitable world has an unusual thermal profile driven by geothermal activity, producing warm, humid growing conditions that don't require the same artificial supplementation as colder M-dwarf worlds. The market field is literal: the main settlement is organized around an open trading district that evolved from the original cargo-handling facility.

As a spur_end at hop 6, Marktfeld is the last node before the dead_end at Lichtung beyond. Everything that reaches Lichtung passes through here. This gives it a modest but reliable commercial purpose: the transit tax on outbound cargo to Lichtung, the storage and handling fees, the service businesses that spring up around any waypoint. Not wealth, but the kind of steady functional income that a two-century community knows how to manage.

Supply Dependency

Marktfeld depends on manufactured goods and specialized components arriving through Hansestadt from the main west_reach corridor. Its own production is agricultural and light industrial — sufficient for local consumption and for supplying Lichtung, not sufficient for full self-sufficiency in high-tech goods.

Faction Notes

The Commission maintains a standard transit post — the traffic volume through Marktfeld, small as it is, requires customs logging for the Lichtung route. A local commercial association, the Handelsgilde, predates the formal Commission post and still handles a significant portion of cargo brokerage, dispute arbitration between traders, and rate-setting for the storage facilities.

Silence Topic

Pricing arrangements between the Handelsgilde and certain Hansestadt-based trading houses that are believed to include incentives not reflected in the official rate schedule.

Narrative Hook

A cargo shipment destined for Lichtung has been sitting in Marktfeld's bonded warehouse for eleven months, its Commission clearance flagged for review, with no one on either end appearing to press for resolution.

Calibration Note

Wave_4 spur_end at hop 6 with an explicitly commercial founding is consistent with west_reach development patterns — the German-heritage corridor extended trade networks ahead of residential settlement, using commercial outposts as anchors.
