At hop eight, GJ 616 would be settled.
That is the complete summary of every assessment that has been conducted on the system. The K-type primary is adequate. The habitable world meets settlement criteria: breathable atmosphere, stable geology, acceptable water distribution, no significant biological hazard. The transit connections to GJ 853A and GJ 903 give the corridor good bones. At any hop distance up to about nine, the logistics of founding a settlement here would be manageable, the economic case for the agricultural potential would be plausible, and some combination of farming families, opportunists, and idealists would have found their way here by now.
At hop twelve, the logistics of supplying a founding cohort over that distance defeat every proposal before they progress to earnest planning. A founding cohort needs to bring enough to establish themselves before they can produce enough to sustain themselves. At hop twelve, the supply chain for that initial period is expensive, slow, and vulnerable to any disruption in the intervening eleven transit hops. The risk is not the world. The world is fine.
