Mossbank is the terminus — reached through an unsettled binary system, one gate, one way out. The name is Scottish, carried across decades and light-years by settlers whose families came from that tradition, and it fits a world where low-growing vegetation carpets every damp surface and the word "bank" captures both the sloped terrain and the quiet feeling of something accumulating slowly.
The star is the surprise. A G-type primary — bright, warm, yellow-white — sits at the end of this dim corridor like a door left open in a dark hallway. The habitable world sits inside a broad temperate zone, and the quality of the light is noticeably different from the red-shifted corridors of the Cairn pocket chain. Settlers who arrived forty to a hundred years ago found a world that required less artificial lighting, less vitamin supplementation, and less agricultural engineering than the M-dwarf worlds behind them. They consider this luck. Some of them consider it a reason to stay permanently.
As a dead_end with one aperture, Mossbank is off the movement of goods and people that flows through through_routes. What arrives here was sent here. What leaves here was meant to leave. This gives the community an unusual clarity about who belongs and why. Strangers are memorable.
Supply Dependency
Mossbank is not yet self-sufficient in manufactured components and medical fabrication. Supply runs from Athabasca (GJ 1289) route through the unsettled GJ 3988 binary; delays are expected and built into planning cycles. The community has developed strong local repair and maintenance culture as a result — you fix what you have because the replacement is three weeks out.
Faction Notes
Settlement council governance, no external faction presence. Scottish heritage community traditions run deep enough that informal dispute resolution structures predate the formal charter. The Commission knows this system exists; it does not have a representative stationed here.
Silence Topic
The decision to route through the unsettled binary to reach Mossbank rather than finding a more direct approach. The survey data suggests alternative corridors existed and were not pursued. No one local knows why, and asking the question is considered rude — implying the founders had a reason to hide.
Narrative Hook
A family arrived eighteen months ago claiming to be the descendants of the original survey team, carrying documents that would establish a prior land claim predating the current settlement charter. The council has been quietly ignoring them. The documents may be genuine.
Calibration Note
Wave_5 dead_end at hop 7 routed through an unsettled system is the most isolated settled configuration in the north_reach corridor. The G-type star justifies settlement despite the access difficulty.
