Helle Wacht
GJ 598 | F-type | deep_frontier
The name means "bright watch" — chosen for the F-type star, which is a conspicuous luxury in the deep frontier where M-dwarfs dominate and warmth has to be compensated for with technology. Helle Wacht was settled forty to one hundred years ago by Compact of Westphalia dissidents: families who believed the Compact wasn't going far enough, that even the mutual recognition framework represented too much institutional entanglement. They came past the Compact's effective reach to build something that owes nothing to anyone. The F-type star was a bonus. The zero institutional obligations were the point.

Supply Dependency
The F-type star gives Helle Wacht a genuine agricultural advantage over most deep frontier systems. More light, warmer conditions, better growing seasons — the community has been able to establish viable food production faster than comparable communities around M-dwarfs. This was part of the site selection logic. The founders wanted to be self-sufficient quickly; they understood that ideological commitment to external independence requires material independence first, and that material independence requires conditions that support early agricultural success.
The supply line to Weitblick and the inner corridor still matters for manufactured goods and medical equipment. The community is building toward reduced dependency and expects to achieve functional self-sufficiency within the current generation. Whether the ideological position of zero external obligations is achievable even in principle is a question the community addresses through increasing local fabrication capacity rather than by discussing whether the premise is realistic.
Faction Notes
Helle Wacht has no formal institutional affiliations by design. The community's founding premise was the rejection of institutional entanglement, which means it has gone further in that direction than even Skuilplek — no Compact affiliation, no Lattice Commission compliance registration beyond the minimum required to maintain gate access, no Guardian chapter (the community regards the Guardians as still too institutionally mediated for their purposes).
The founders disagree internally about what zero institutional obligation actually means in practice. A functioning community requires institutions. The question is which institutions are acceptable and on what terms. These debates are ongoing, active, and unresolved. The community is building institutions from scratch while simultaneously debating the philosophical basis on which those institutions should be justified.
Silence Topic
What Helle Wacht does not discuss: the specific point at which the Compact of Westphalia became unacceptable to the founders, and what happened at Weitblick or the inner Germanic systems that precipitated the departure.
The founding narrative presents the move as principled ideological position — the Compact wasn't going far enough. What it doesn't discuss is why this became urgent enough to act on when it did, who specifically in the Compact's governance structure the founders were in conflict with, and whether the departure was fully voluntary or whether there was pressure from the Compact's side that made remaining impossible. The founders are still alive. They know what happened. The community's children know the ideological version. The specific events are the founders' private knowledge, and the founders have not offered to share them.
Narrative Hook
Helle Wacht's founders left the Compact of Westphalia's effective reach to build a community with zero external obligations; they are still alive, they know what specifically drove them out, and they have given their children the ideological version rather than the personal one.
