GJ 5 sits between two worlds that nobody has claimed. On one side, the G-type GJ 524 — the deep frontier's best unclaimed real estate, sitting empty for two centuries with survey reports piling up in the archive. On the other, Ouplaas at GJ 528A — four hundred years of continuous settlement, the oldest farming community in the deep frontier, run by families who have worked the same soil for five generations.
The primary world of GJ 5 is a K-type habitable zone world: adequate stellar warmth, stable geology, atmospheric conditions that survey teams consistently describe as favorable for agricultural development. The world is not as immediately compelling as GJ 524's garden profile, but it is substantially better than most habitable worlds at this depth. Early survey data suggests good agricultural potential, sufficient water distribution, and the kind of ecological balance that indicates planetary stability over geological timescales.
The corridor here has curious bones. GJ 524 to one side, GJ 5 in the middle, Ouplaas on the other — two habitable-world systems in a row, both empty, bracketing the oldest farming community in the deep frontier. The geometry invites speculation. Settlement proposals for this corridor have appeared in various forms over the decades, and they consistently note the infrastructure logic: Ouplaas as a supply anchor, GJ 5 as a staging point, GJ 524 as the primary agricultural world, the whole corridor potentially becoming the deep frontier's most productive agricultural chain with a fraction of the investment required to develop each system in isolation.
Ouplaas's residents have opinions about this. Those opinions are not uniform. The older families tend toward the position that the empty corridors are what makes the depth comfortable; the community's independence and self-sufficiency have been sustained in part by not being embedded in a larger agricultural network with its attendant dependencies and institutional attention. The younger generation includes voices that find the corridor's emptiness wasteful rather than protective. The discussion is ongoing and considered internal family business.
Supply Dependency
None.
Faction Notes
No faction presence. Ouplaas's community has informal standing as the nearest settled neighbor and expresses opinions about corridor development when asked. Those opinions carry the weight that four centuries of community existence produces.
Narrative Hook
An empty K-type habitable world positioned between the deep frontier's best unclaimed G-type and its oldest settled community — a gap in an otherwise logical chain that the oldest neighbor has complex feelings about filling.
