THE DRIFTER'S GUIDE TO THE REACH — JINGHU
JINGHU means mirror lake, after a still-water feature in the habitable moon's largest basin, and has since acquired an additional ironic dimension: it reflects Haodu's commercial activity but routes around Haodu's queues, which is either a mirror or a bypass depending on how much patience you have with Haodu's gate scheduling.
The Independent Junction
The founding cooperative got to this M4 dwarf before the Yongli Combine's predecessor entities consolidated the inner corridor, and negotiated their integration terms from a position of established occupancy. This distinction — Combine-adjacent, not Combine-owned — has been the defining fact of Jinghu's governance ever since. The founding cooperative's descendants hold the primary commercial and residential seats on the Administrative Council. The Combine's transit affiliate operates under a service contract. The Commission's compliance requirements are met without friction. The gate charts list Jinghu as a reliable junction, which it is.
The technical reliability that Jinghu has built over wave_2 centuries is real: bonded warehousing, gate ferry maintenance, crew rotation facilities, short-term cargo insurance adjudication. The Yongli Combine's logistics analysts reference Jinghu by name when calculating corridor routing efficiency, which is the most sincere form of professional compliment available in the transit sector.
The Scheduling Agreement
Approximately eighty years ago, when Haodu's congestion problems became commercially significant, Jinghu negotiated a gate scheduling coordination agreement. The agreement gives Jinghu's transit operators preferential slot access on two of Haodu's gate sequences in exchange for guaranteed throughput commitments.
This arrangement effectively allows Jinghu's transit operators to route around Haodu's public queue, which increases Jinghu's commercial throughput and makes Haodu's public-access slot allocation marginally less predictable for everyone else. The corridor operators who encounter unexplained delays at Haodu do not immediately identify Jinghu's preferential access as a contributing factor. The Combine's logistics analysts have identified it. They have not raised it with the Commission, because the Combine's transit affiliate also benefits from the agreement. The Administrative Council regards the agreement as commercially confidential. It is commercially confidential.
Practical Information
Jinghu is five hops from Gateway with three gate apertures connecting to Songjiang, Nová Tržnice, and Haodu. The habitable moon's mirror lake is still there and is still beautiful. The transit facilities are functional and well-maintained. The gate queue at Haodu, on those days when it runs longer than expected, is not something the Administrative Council has a public explanation for.
