Einde means "end" in Afrikaans and Dutch, and it is meant in every sense the word carries.

The community is forty to one hundred years old — young enough that the founding generation is still alive, old enough that children born here have grown up with no other home. It sits at the end of a dead-end corridor off an unsettled system, meaning that to reach Einde you must first pass through the empty, unwelcoming space of GJ 394 — a dim M-dwarf with a cold primary world and no human presence — and then through a single aperture that opens into this system and no other. There is no through-traffic. No one arrives at Einde by accident or by transit. Every person here came here on purpose, or was born here after their parents came on purpose.

The founding trauma is known to every resident and is not discussed with outsiders: a pressure containment failure at an inner-corridor extraction facility. The specific system, the specific facility, the specific corporate contractor whose deferred maintenance created the conditions for the failure — these details are part of the community's internal memory and are not offered freely. The name is both honest and defiant. Einde is the end — the end of the corridor, the end of transit options, the end of whatever trajectory brought the founding families here.
