THE DRIFTER'S GUIDE TO THE REACH — EINDE
EINDE means "end" in Afrikaans and Dutch, and is meant in every sense the word carries. The community arrived here deliberately, past the empty discouragement of GJ 394, through a single gate aperture that opens into this system and no other, and named the place for what it is. You do not arrive at Einde in transit. You arrive because this is where you meant to go.
Why They Came Here
The founding trauma is known to every resident and is not discussed with outsiders. A pressure containment failure at an inner-corridor extraction facility. The specific system, the specific facility, the specific corporate contractor whose deferred maintenance created the conditions for the failure — these details are the community's internal memory. What is offered, if you earn the right to ask, is the relevant fact: it killed people. The survivors who chose to leave chose maximum distance from heavy industry, maximum isolation from the economic pressure that produces deferred maintenance, and maximum control over the physical conditions of their own lives.
Einde's economy is agricultural by design and by conviction. No extraction under pressure. No large-scale industrial processes. No heavy equipment whose failure could kill everyone present. This is not poverty. It is a specific and considered decision about acceptable risk made by people who understand catastrophic industrial failure in personal terms and have organized their lives around never again trusting someone else's maintenance schedule with their survival.
The Place Itself
The K-type primary provides adequate warmth. The world has a breathable atmosphere and reasonable agricultural conditions. Forty to one hundred years of careful work has developed a relationship with the native ecology that reflects the founding instinct toward sustainable, controlled systems. The world is not lush. It is enough. Enough is what the community was looking for.
The dead-end corridor — through the empty space of GJ 394, single aperture, no through traffic — is a feature. The community's founding instinct was maximum distance from institutional and industrial authority, and the topology provides it. Supply arrives via the single corridor. Stockpiles are maintained for extended isolation. This is considered basic prudence.
Governance
Community assembly, full resident participation, decisions made slowly and considered correctly. Commission inquiries receive minimum required compliance responses. No Syndic operations proposed and none would be accepted. The community has not yet reached the question of whether the founding generation's specific fear can be transmitted to a generation that did not live it — only that the instinct toward careful management of physical conditions has become a community value independent of its origin.
Practical Information
Einde is twelve hops from Gateway with one aperture connecting to GJ 394. No incidental traffic. The community is self-sufficient in food. Visitors who arrive by specific intent and with reasonable purpose are received. The founding incident is not discussed.
