THE DRIFTER'S GUIDE TO THE REACH — WOLF 359
WOLF 359 is the node where every north corridor transit complaint eventually arrives, and where those complaints are politely processed, stamped, and filed in sequence until they become someone else's problem.
The Administrative Hub
Five gates, an M6 dwarf with no hospitable bodies, and a population that lives entirely on platforms purpose-built for transit service. Wolf 359 was activated late — Wave 5, despite being only three hops from Gateway — because early settlement waves passed through and did not stay. There was nothing here to stay for. The platforms were built later, when the north corridor's traffic volume justified a dedicated administrative node, and the community formed around the bureaucracy rather than the other way around.
The Concord Assembly maintains a full regional office — not a delegate relay but a staffed administrative node with authority to issue transit endorsements, adjudicate inter-system commercial disputes, and coordinate fleet patrol scheduling across the north corridor. This is the Assembly's institutional face for the entire region at this distance. The Gate Corporation has a Class-2 operational base, larger than most inner systems warrant, reflecting the maintenance demands of a five-aperture facility.
Local governance is parliamentary — an elected Chamber of Delegates with proportional representation across twelve residential platforms. In practice the Chamber defers heavily to the Assembly regional office on matters touching transit and commerce, which is most matters. The procedural culture is Assembly-institutional rather than organic: imported wholesale when the regional office was established and adopted by a platform-born population that had no older tradition to resist it. Every decision gets a record, every record gets archived, every archive gets indexed.
The Reclassification
The Assembly regional office has been quietly reclassifying certain freight categories to bring them under "security inspection" protocols that add three to five days of processing delay. The official rationale is standardization. The actual effect is that Assembly-aligned freight brokers — who have advance knowledge of the new schedules — can offer guaranteed delivery windows that independent operators cannot match. No one inside the Chamber has formally objected. Several have been asked not to.
Practical Information
Wolf 359 is three hops from Gateway with five gate apertures. The system has no agricultural or extractive economic base, which makes it tractable in ways that systems with genuine local economies are not. The Gate Corporation staff gives it the most cosmopolitan resident population in the north corridor. The platforms are functional. The procedures are thorough. The complaints are filed.
