THE DRIFTER'S GUIDE TO THE REACH — TRUNG'S CROSSING
TRUNG'S CROSSING is forty years old, wave_5, 39.8 light years from Gateway, and was established within eight months of the public release of the survey data that identified the system's transit potential — a timeline that other frontier developers, reviewing it afterward, have consistently described as faster than their own due diligence processes would permit.
The Cooperative
Vu Trung and three siblings, Vietnamese-heritage logistics operators out of Tanaka Station, filed the settlement charter and are still resident. At forty years out, the settlement is young enough that its founders are its governance and its governance is its founders. This is not unusual for wave_5 at this distance. What is slightly unusual is the speed of the original filing.
The Trung cooperative's twenty-year development plan is, by all accounts, on schedule. The system exports passage, refueling service, and gate scheduling support. It is not wealthy and is not intended to be wealthy yet. The Assembly issued a settlement charter and has had minimal contact since, which is unremarkable at hop 8. The Gate Corporation maintenance contract binds the system into Gate Corp's service network and associated communication infrastructure — a relationship Vu Trung negotiated before finalizing the charter, understanding that communication redundancy at 39.8 light years was not something the Assembly would provide.
The Survey Timeline
The horizon station at GJ 3533 was charted by an Assembly survey mission fifteen years before the Trung cooperative filed. The public registry data was released; eight months later the charter was filed. The speed of that filing, given the due diligence that a legitimate cooperative development project requires, is something a careful observer would note. What additional information Vu Trung had access to before the public release, and through what connection, is not a question the Assembly's survey archive is currently structured to answer.
The Trung cooperative does not discuss this. There is nothing to discuss, in the sense that there is no documented discrepancy to point to — only a timeline, and a timeline is not a discrepancy, and the plan is on schedule.
Practical Information
Trung's Crossing is eight hops from Gateway with two gate apertures connecting to Tam Giang and Mabuhay. One habitable rock. The transit infrastructure serves the through-route traffic. The Salvage Cooperative from Tam Giang has a shared operational agreement with the crossing for shelf-zone work between the two systems. The plan has twenty years to run.
