Supply Dependency

Yongjin does not produce much that the corridor needs. Its habitable body is marginal agricultural territory — enough for local sufficiency, not enough to export — and the system's light manufacturing capacity exists almost entirely to service the transit infrastructure that defines its purpose. What Yongjin produces is coordination: gate scheduling, customs processing, freight documentation, and the logistical arbitration that junction systems at the entry to a major corridor must perform continuously or lose the confidence of the freight operators who route through them.

The system's position as the corridor gateway from the core creates a specific dependency pattern. Everything the east_reach imports moves through Yongjin's scheduling authority. A single-day disruption to gate scheduling at Yongjin does not stop the freight — it creates a queue that takes four days to clear. This leverage is real and local transit administrators understand it. The Assembly maintains a transit oversight office here with authority to intervene in scheduling disputes, which is one of the few Assembly functions east_reach operators acknowledge as genuinely useful.

Faction Notes

The Lattice Commission has a functioning field presence at Yongjin because every freight shipment entering the east corridor from the core passes through here and customs inspection at a well-resourced junction is cheaper than enforcement actions deeper in the corridor. Commission agents at Yongjin have a reputation for rigorous documentation review rather than investigative work — this is a compliance station, not an intelligence station. Their relationship with local transit administrators is professional and somewhat transactional: both sides understand their mandates and keep to them.

Gate Corporation operates a regional scheduling coordination office here, which is the institutional nucleus around which Yongjin's professional class has organized itself. The office employs a multi-heritage staff drawn from across the corridor, as Gate Corp postings tend to do, which gives Yongjin's administrative quarter a more cosmopolitan character than the surrounding settlement. The Korean-heritage founding community that named the system remains numerically significant, particularly in the older residential districts, but the working professional population is substantially mixed.

The founding community's cultural presence is strongest in the system's administrative governance structures — the transit authority council uses a procedural framework with roots in Korean civil service tradition, emphasizing documented merit review and competitive credential assessment for advancement. This has made Yongjin's local bureaucracy unusually meritocratic relative to comparable wave_4 junctions. Whether this is a cultural legacy or simply an efficient adaptation to a transit-coordination role is a question locals do not find interesting.

Silence Topic

What Yongjin's transit administrators do not discuss with outsiders: the queue prioritization algorithm.

Gate scheduling at a four-aperture junction involves choices about which freight moves first. The stated criteria are publicly documented: hazardous cargo, perishables, medical supply, time-bound contracts, and then volume throughput optimization. The actual criteria include, according to persistent freight-operator rumor, a secondary weighting that favors established corridor operators over new entrants. No one has proven this. The Commission has audited the algorithm twice and certified it compliant both times. The freight operators who believe the weighting exists cannot demonstrate it because the Commission's audit found no documented parameter encoding it. The possibility that the weighting is embedded in an undocumented calibration that the Commission did not specifically test for is the question that makes new entrants to the corridor frustrated and established operators careful to maintain their relationships with Yongjin's scheduling office.

Narrative Hook

Every freight operator entering the east corridor from the core has a scheduling relationship with Yongjin's transit authority, and the operators who run reliably on time all seem to share the same legal representation firm.

Calibration Note

wave_4 at hop 3 is on the late side for an inner-reach junction — most hop-3 systems were settled in wave_2 or wave_3. Yongjin's late settlement reflects that the specific east_reach gate path through this system was not fully rationalized until the Wave 3 commercial expansion pushed junction demand outward. The system was a survey marker before it was a settlement. The wave_4 dating reflects when permanent infrastructure was established, not when anyone first passed through.
