Vorposten
GJ 309 | K-type | deep_frontier
The name means "outpost," and it is accurate without embellishment. Vorposten is forty to one hundred years old — a wave_5 settlement off the Weitblick junction, pushing the Germanic deep frontier one hop further into territory that had not been settled before. The founding cohort came from Compact of Westphalia-affiliated systems and carried those political instincts with them: mutual recognition, minimal external obligations, the deliberate community compact as the basis for governance. The community is small, the infrastructure is basic, and the sense of building something from the beginning is still present in how people here talk about their work.

Supply Dependency
Vorposten is not yet fully self-sufficient. The agricultural base is in its early generations of K-type adaptation, producing enough to cover most local food requirements but not the surplus that older communities export. The community imports food supplements, manufactured goods, and medical equipment through Weitblick on a regular schedule. Supply lead times are the governing constraint on most decisions the community makes.
The Compact of Westphalia's affiliated systems have provided some settlement support — agricultural consultation, equipment loans, skilled labor on temporary contract for first-generation infrastructure construction. This support is understood by both sides as time-limited. Vorposten will be expected to become operationally independent within a generation, and the community's leadership is building toward that expectation.
Faction Notes
The Compact of Westphalia's framework extends nominally to Vorposten through the founding cohort's affiliations. In practice, at this distance and scale, the Compact's institutional presence is represented by the values and governance instincts the founders brought rather than by any formal administrative relationship. There are no Compact representatives resident; the founding cohort is the Compact's presence.
The Lattice Commission has a registration on file for Vorposten. No Commission personnel have visited. The community's compliance record is maintained by community leadership with the same thoroughness they apply to everything else at this stage: carefully, because this is the kind of thing that becomes a problem if neglected in the founding period.
Silence Topic
What Vorposten does not discuss with the Compact's inner corridor communities: the degree to which the founding cohort has already begun to make governance decisions that depart from Compact consensus.
They are at enough distance and early enough in their institutional development that departure from the Compact framework feels necessary for practical reasons. How much of this is pragmatic adaptation to frontier conditions and how much of it is the Compact's framework simply not fitting a community of this size at this distance is a question the community hasn't resolved. The Compact's consensus processes are designed for communities with communication access measured in days; Vorposten's communication lag is weeks. The decisions that can't wait don't wait, and the community has been making them without the consultation the Compact framework technically requires.
Narrative Hook
Vorposten's founding cohort carries Compact of Westphalia political instincts and has already begun making governance decisions the Compact's consensus framework didn't sanction; the community hasn't mentioned this to the Compact, and the distance makes it easy to not mention.
