Lichtbrücke
GJ 302 | K0V | west_reach
Lichtbrücke — German for "light bridge" — is a spur-end system sitting between Freiholt (GJ 453) and Randsholm (GJ 775). The name was given by the founding cooperative's lead surveyor, who arrived in wave_2 and described the system's K0V primary as "a bridge of light between two darker corridors" — an impressionistic characterization that referred to the relative warmth of this sun against its neighbors and, less precisely, to the system's positional character as a waypoint connecting inner and outer corridor traffic. The name outlasted the surveyor's generation and became the place.

The K0V primary is among the warmer stars in the outer west corridor at hop 8 — not spectacularly bright, but perceptibly more generous in its output than the K2, K4, and M-type stars that characterize the corridor's typical systems at this depth. The primary habitable world, called Brücke by residents (an abbreviation that omits the light entirely, which the community finds locally amusing), is a moderately dense rocky world with thin highland terrain and broad low-elevation plains. The plains are partially cultivable. Brücke produces enough food to cover local needs with a small surplus, which has been a consistent feature of the system's economy across four hundred years rather than an achievement requiring celebration.
Lichtbrücke's significance is positional. The two gates connect inward toward Freiholt (GJ 453) and outward toward Randsholm (GJ 775), placing the system on the commercial corridor that links Freiholt's manufacturing junction to the deeper outer west. Four hundred years ago, the founding cooperative positioned here because the gate connection existed and the habitable world was serviceable. They built a community around the transit function and the local agricultural capacity, and the community endured.
Supply Dependency
Lichtbrücke's economy has two components in roughly equal weight. The transit services sector — gate scheduling coordination, short-term warehousing, fuel bunkering for vessels moving between Freiholt and Randsholm — is tied to the traffic volume that the spur generates. This volume is not high by corridor standards but has been consistent enough to sustain the warehousing infrastructure for generations. The agricultural sector produces the local food supply and a modest surplus that is primarily sold to transiting vessels rather than exported in bulk.
Manufactured goods arrive primarily from Freiholt (GJ 453). The commercial relationship with Freiholt is economically significant to Lichtbrücke and commercially minor to Freiholt, which is a power asymmetry the Lichtbrücke council has managed across generations by maintaining the kind of reliable, undemanding commercial relationship that larger systems find easier to maintain than to replace. Lichtbrücke pays its obligations, meets its schedules, and does not create problems. This is an explicit institutional strategy.
The relationship with Randsholm (GJ 775) is newer — Randsholm's wave_5 founding placed it on Lichtbrücke's outward gate only forty years ago — and is still developing. Randsholm depends on Lichtbrücke as a transit point for its own commercial access to Freiholt and the inner corridor; Lichtbrücke's warehousing sector has seen its busiest decade since Randsholm's founding, as the young system's import volume exceeds its current self-sufficiency.
MVG has no contract presence here. The system is outside the MVG corridor's reach.
Faction Notes
Lichtbrücke's governance is a municipal council with straightforward elected representation, amended four times in its four-hundred-year history. The council's dominant concern has consistently been the same: maintaining transit service infrastructure quality to ensure the system remains a preferred waypoint rather than a bypassed routing option. The transit function is not guaranteed — in principle, operators moving between Freiholt and Randsholm could coordinate schedules that skip Lichtbrücke's warehousing and bunkering services entirely. In practice this is inefficient enough to sustain demand, but the council regards the threat as real and budgets accordingly.
The Compact of Westphalia relationship is established and relatively uncomplicated. Lichtbrücke signed the treaty in the second generation of Compact formation, following Freiholt's lead. The practical benefit was immediate: Compact members preferred to use Compact-affiliated waypoints, and Lichtbrücke's transit services gained a commercial preference that boosted the warehousing sector for the decade after signing. Four hundred years of proximity to Freiholt have produced a governance culture with strong Compact sympathies that do not require ideological articulation — it is simply the political atmosphere the council operates within.
Assembly authority is theoretical at this hop depth. The wave_2 commercial registration is maintained as a matter of administrative continuity. No Assembly representative has visited in the institutional memory of anyone currently on the council.
Silence Topic
What Lichtbrücke has been managing quietly for fifteen years is the question of Randsholm's transit governance. Randsholm's founding cooperative, which settled forty years ago, has been building toward the question of whether it has the right to levy transit tariffs on traffic moving through its own gates — a question the Compact's commercial framework does not cleanly answer. Lichtbrücke's council knows that how this question is resolved will directly affect the commercial attractiveness of Lichtbrücke as a waypoint: if Randsholm succeeds in levying tariffs on through-traffic, operators on the Freiholt-Randsholm route will begin optimizing their scheduling to minimize Randsholm gate transits, which will reduce the volume of traffic that reaches Lichtbrücke's warehousing sector.
The council has been quietly advocating within Compact governance discussions that Randsholm's tariff question be resolved in a way that keeps the route commercially fluid. This position serves Lichtbrücke's economic interest more than it serves any principle. The council has not stated it in those terms in any forum where Randsholm's representatives could hear it.
Narrative Hook
The quiet waypoint that has survived four hundred years by being reliably useful is now quietly working to limit a younger neighbor's governance rights — because those rights, if recognized, would make Lichtbrücke less useful.
Calibration Note
wave_2 at hop 8 in a spur_end position is consistent with early transit-function settlement: the founding cooperative came because the gate connection was there and the habitable world allowed self-sustaining community. K0V classification is accurate. spur_end with two gates — inward to Freiholt, outward to Randsholm — is accurate. The transit-services economy is consistent with a waypoint system that has sustained itself on transit margin and local agricultural surplus for four centuries. The community developing its own character despite being defined by transit function is the brief's core concept, expressed through the governance subtlety around Randsholm.
