Posto Avançado — "forward post" in Portuguese — carries its function in its name and has never pretended to be something else. Two hundred years ago, a Portuguese-heritage settlement group established this community at the end of a spur off GJ 482B with a specific intent: to push the habitation frontier one more system outward, plant something that would survive, and call that a success. They succeeded, which was the easier part. Surviving two centuries of deep_frontier isolation, with one gate, no through traffic, and the distance from everything that "forward post" implies — that took something more.

The M-dwarf primary is dim and stable, warm enough to support a modest habitable zone but requiring the agricultural engineering common across red-dwarf corridor communities. The community has had two centuries to refine that engineering, and the food culture that developed from those constraints — dense, preserved, seasonally precise — is one of the things locals take genuine pride in.

At hop 7, Commission authority is minimal. A charter post exists in name; in practice, a Commission vessel visits annually and the rest of the time Posto Avançado governs itself through a council that has been continuously operating for two hundred years. The institutional memory runs deep. The people here know their own history better than any outside authority does, and they treat outside interest — commercial or administrative — with a calibrated wariness that has served them well.

Supply Dependency

Posto Avançado is the most supply-isolated system in its immediate cluster. Everything manufactured that isn't locally produced must come through GJ 482B and along the deep_frontier corridor beyond. Lead times are significant and planning horizons are long. The community has compensated by developing strong local fabrication capacity and by being selective about what it considers essential.

Faction Notes

A community council governs, with a separate resource allocation board that manages the supply line relationship with GJ 482B. The Commission post is staffed part-time. No external trading house maintains a permanent representative — the traffic volume doesn't justify it.

Silence Topic

The founding conditions. The original wave_4 settlement petition contains a codicil, now sealed in the community archive, explaining why this specific location was chosen over two other candidate systems at comparable distance. The reasons in the public record are agricultural suitability. The codicil describes something different.

Narrative Hook

The resource allocation board has recently issued an unexplained reduction in the supply request transmitted to GJ 482B — less than the community's documented consumption figures would warrant, ordered without explanation. Someone on the board knows why. Nobody else does.

Calibration Note

Wave_4 dead_end at hop 7 is consistent with the deep_frontier's Portuguese-heritage settlement pattern — communities founded as deliberate outposts rather than opportunistic settlements, with the understanding that they would be remote by design.
