THE DRIFTER'S GUIDE TO THE REACH — GJ 167
GJ 167 is two consecutive unsettled through-routes between Knotenpunkt and Helle Wacht — GJ 324A and this system — which means the corridor from the junction to the Compact dissidents' furthest outpost passes through nine hops of gate infrastructure without a single person living in any of them beyond the endpoints. The architects of that dissident community's isolation did not build it deliberately. It emerged from three centuries of assessment by everyone who looked at GJ 167 and decided they were looking for somewhere else.
The Gap
The corridor geometry required a through_route here. The transit infrastructure was installed. The automated relay hardware was set running. No settlement attempt followed. The survey records are on file, as they are for GJ 324A one hop back. They describe a K-type star and a system with the specific combination of qualities that produce the same result in every assessment: adequate, unremarkable, neither good enough to select nor bad enough to reject on grounds one could name specifically.
Vessels transiting between GJ 324A and Helle Wacht pass through without stopping. The automated relay is the only operational infrastructure. No faction has a presence. Nothing has been recorded. The silence here is not significant; it is simply the absence of anyone to record anything.
What the Corridor Tells You
The consecutive chain of unsettled systems between Knotenpunkt and Helle Wacht is the topological explanation for why Helle Wacht's founders felt they had escaped institutional reach. They had. Any institutional interest originating at the junction would pass through two unmanned waypoints before arriving at the community. At deep frontier communication speeds, with no intermediate population to notice or report anything in transit, the corridor functions as a buffer that the founders understood and selected for. The uninhabited systems between them and the junction are not incidental. They are the point.
Practical Information
GJ 167 is nine hops from Gateway. The automated relay hardware is operational. No services are available. Vessels in transit should verify their gate coordinates before departure; the automated systems provide navigation data but no guidance if the data is misread.
