Entremeio is the corridor's last named community before the deep chain enters territory that does not follow the normal logic of settlement.

The F9V primary is near-solar — warm, bright enough to feel familiar to anyone who has spent time in the inner Reach, dim enough to remind you that familiar is relative. The system is binary in a loose sense: a distant M-dwarf companion orbits at the outer edge of the system, contributing nothing to the habitable zone and appearing in the night sky of the habitable world as a faint red point that the community calls "the follower." The habitable world itself is adequate — thin atmosphere requiring supplemental pressure in lower elevations, surface water in equatorial lakes, soil chemistry that has responded to two centuries of agricultural amendment with the grudging cooperation typical of deep frontier worlds.

Wave_4 settlers arrived approximately 160 years ago, following the corridor through Nova Estrada's current position (unsettled at the time) from the mid-Reach. The founding cohort was a mixed south_reach group — Brazilian and Portuguese heritage predominant, with significant Filipino and Indonesian minority representation. The name entremeio is Portuguese: in-between, the interlude, the space that exists between the thing before and the thing after. The founders named their settlement for its topology, not its conditions, which tells you what they understood about where they were. Entremeio is not a destination. It is the system between where you have been and where you are going.

The community of approximately 700 people has the particular character of a through-route settlement that has accepted its transitional identity: they provision travelers, they maintain the corridor, and they do not pretend that the majority of people who pass through will remember the system's name. The settlement sits on the shore of the largest equatorial lake, where supplemental atmospheric pressure is unnecessary and the microclimate supports adapted agriculture without the full infrastructure investment that the rest of the world requires. The lakeside settlement has a quality that the deep frontier's drier, dimmer systems lack — something almost comfortable, almost inviting, almost enough to make a traveler consider staying. Almost.

The through-route connects Nova Estrada at GJ 672 to Dalim at GJ 127A. Beyond Dalim, the corridor enters the deepest section of the Reach — the wave_5 settlement at GJ 501B, the wave_2 anomaly at GJ 7547, and the terminus at Abzu. Entremeio is the last system on this route where a traveler can expect to find a community that operates on recognizable frontier economics: supply chains, trade relationships, agricultural surplus, the ordinary mechanics of human settlement at distance. What lies beyond Dalim does not operate on those mechanics.

The community knows this. They see the travelers heading deeper — sparse, purposeful, rarely talkative about where they are going or why. They provision them. They do not ask questions. The founding cohort's south_reach heritage includes a hospitality tradition that extends to strangers passing through and does not extend to curiosity about their business. In the inner Reach, this would be discretion. At hop 19, it is survival strategy: a through-route community that asks too many questions of the people passing through will eventually ask a question that someone does not want asked, and at this distance, the consequences of that are managed locally rather than institutionally.

Agricultural supplements and technical components from the corridor behind — Sonnenkap, Kettenschmied, and the mid-Reach supply chain. Food production is partially local, concentrated in the lakeside microclimate. The community imports approximately forty percent of its caloric needs, a dependency that has been slowly decreasing as agricultural development extends around the lake's perimeter. Medical supplies and fabrication components follow the standard deep frontier pattern: long intervals, careful stockpiling, and the particular anxiety that comes from knowing your nearest source of critical medical technology is nineteen hops away.

Governance by elected municipal council with four-year terms — a more formal structure than most deep frontier communities, reflecting the founding cohort's south_reach democratic tradition. The council manages community affairs, trade policy, and corridor provisioning services. The community's relationship with the Assembly is bureaucratic in the minimum-compliance sense: paperwork filed, assessments unpaid, delegates unelected. The council's position is that the Assembly's jurisdiction is theoretical at hop 19 and the community's resources are better spent on the lake's irrigation infrastructure than on compliance with a body whose nearest enforcement capacity is a month's transit away.

What the travelers heading deeper toward Dalim and Abzu are carrying — and what they bring back. The provisioning logs record transactions: water, food, technical components, fuel. They do not record cargo descriptions for outbound travelers, and the community's customs practice does not include inspection. This is not negligence. It is a policy the council established in the settlement's first decade, after an incident that the community does not describe to outsiders and that produced the current practice of provisioning without inquiry. The policy has served the community well for 160 years. What passes through Entremeio on the way to Abzu is Abzu's business.
