jpmschweitzerandClaude Opus 4.6 db241b88bd refactor(schema): rename biome_summary to planet_class (D-188)
"Biome" describes per-zone vegetation classification (Whittaker table).
"Planet class" describes overall planetary character. The conflation
caused the planet generator to misclassify ~270 bodies as barren.

Scope: systems.db column, schema SQL, Rust atlas code, wiki table
headers (Biome → Class), atlas proposal JSONs, all docs/decisions,
tooling scripts. Also normalizes atmosphere vocabulary (breathable →
standard) and expands planet class mapping to all 26 wiki values.
Unknown classes default to temperate for modder safety.

Supply Dependency

Matsue is the east corridor's component fabrication relay: precision machined parts, electronics housings, structural fittings, and the intermediate-complexity manufactured goods that higher-end systems like Haodu (GJ 566A) require as inputs but do not produce at scale. The system's industrial base grew around a specific economic niche — mid-complexity manufacturing for a corridor that produces either raw materials at one end or finished commercial product at the other — and that niche has proven durable.

The supply relationship runs in two directions. Matsue imports raw feedstock from extraction systems deeper in the corridor and from the outer reach, processes it into components, and ships those components coreward through the corridor toward Yongjin (GJ 34B) and Changwon (GJ 860B), which handle onward distribution. The Suzhou system (GJ 4274) is Matsue's single dead_end neighbor, receiving general supply and occasionally contributing specialized research-grade materials back into the manufacturing chain for high-tolerance applications.

Faction Notes

The Yongli Combine has a manufacturing affiliate at Matsue — not a dominant presence on the order of Haodu, but a significant anchor employer that operates two of the larger fabrication complexes. The affiliate's presence is industrial rather than governance-seeking; the Combine has consistently declined to bid for formal administrative contracts at Matsue, preferring to operate as a major employer within a governance structure it does not control.

Local governance is an industrial syndicate council — elected by employed residents with a seat weighting that reflects the older Japanese-heritage founding community's civic traditions more than any contemporary design logic. The founding community arrived in the early wave_3 push that expanded east_reach manufacturing capacity, drew the system's name from a coastal city on Honshu, and established the syndicate governance model that persists today, modified but intact. The council's relationship with the Assembly is institutional: assessments are paid, delegates are sent, and the Assembly's relevance to daily Matsue life is the background fact of any corridor system at this hop distance.

Gate Corporation maintains standard through-route service. No significant Commission investigation presence — Matsue is not a hiding system; it is a working system.

Silence Topic

What the industrial syndicate council does not discuss publicly: the apprenticeship quota question.

Matsue's manufacturing sector has historically maintained formal apprenticeship programs administered through the founding community's syndicate network. These programs are how new residents access the better-compensated skilled positions, and the intake criteria have been managed through the syndicate council's credentialing office rather than any open competitive process. Non-heritage applicants are not formally excluded. They are, in practice, rarely selected by the councils that run intake. The Yongli Combine's workers — who do not go through syndicate credentialing for Combine-operated facilities — have noticed.

Narrative Hook

The Yongli Combine's workers at Matsue have better-documented skills and lower advancement rates than syndicate-credentialed locals, and the syndicate council's credentialing office does not explain its selection criteria in writing.

Calibration Note

The systems.db registers this system as unsettled — a database anomaly that likely reflects an incomplete settlement-wave filing rather than genuine uninhabitation. The physical description (through_route topology, two gates, named system with clear industrial function) is inconsistent with unsettled status. This page treats the system as settled and flags the discrepancy for database correction. The M3.5Vvar star classification (a mildly variable M-dwarf) is consistent with an industrial rather than agricultural economy — surface agriculture is viable in shielded habitats but not open-field. Manufacturing, which does not require stable stellar irradiation, suits this star type.
